The Atlant Primary Education Foundation comprises nine schools spread across fourteen locations in the municipality of Velsen and provides primary education with the goal of offering the best education and development opportunities for all children in IJmuiden and the surrounding area. Every student, regardless of background or beliefs, is welcome. The schools have different student populations and take different approaches to education. We offer parents a choice of Dalton schools, development-oriented schools, unit-based education, and independent schools. We are proud of our enrichment and hands-on classes and our collaboration with local partners in the fields of technology and science. In addition, we collaborate with educational institutions such as the IJmond Training School, youth and family services, and childcare providers, and we participate in the IJmond Appropriate Education Partnership.
Atlant has 171 full-time equivalent employees, serves 3,000 children, and has a budget of approximately 20 million. The organization is seen as a pleasant work environment, and its culture is one of collaboration. Using a quality calendar, the organization focuses on “learning-centeredness” and the continuous improvement of educational quality. The organization applies the principles of Rhineland-style management and builds trust as the foundation for learning and development. It is actively working to prevent teacher shortages by, for example, developing a “new school week” and establishing the Atlant Academy.
Atlant Primary Education considers good and sound governance to be important and adheres to the Code of Good Governance in Primary Education. Atlant involves the teams, the Supervisory Board, and the Joint Participation Council in the organization and policies within and around the schools, and places great importance on horizontal accountability. You can find more information about Atlant, the Supervisory Board, our board of directors, our management, and our ambitions on the Atlant website.
Due to the expiration of the terms of office of two members, we are seeking new members for the Supervisory Board: one with a background in Finance and one with a background in Education and Organization (HR).
The Board consists of a dedicated group of individuals who share collective responsibility, are not afraid to challenge the status quo, and assess what form of oversight is appropriate for the organization’s development. The Supervisory Board also operates according to the model of trust and Appreciative Inquiry, also known as the Rhineland model. The new supervisors participate in and contribute to this process. The Board works with the following committees: Operations, Education and Professional Development, and Compensation.
We are looking for board members who can bring greater diversity of thought and the perspective of a minority group to the table. Given the current composition of the Board, we strongly encourage women to apply.
