The National Youth Fund Jantje Beton is the leading charity that has been working alongside children since 1968 to create more and more challenging play spaces and opportunities for play. Every year, more than 350,000 children participate in Jantje Beton’s activities and projects. Our goal is for all children in the Netherlands to play outside every day. Children have more and more to do and play less and less, even though playing outside is the most important and the most fun part of a healthy and happy life. In mid-2025, a vacancy will arise on our Supervisory Board due to the departure of a member effective July 1, 2025. The prospective new member should have demonstrable expertise and professional experience infinance and business operations, and ideally also professional and/or supervisory experience with fundraising organizations that are recognized by the CBF.

The Supervisory Board is responsible for overseeing the performance of the Executive Board and the general affairs of the organization. The Board also ensures compliance with the principles of the Governance Code. Day-to-day management is the responsibility of the Executive Director.

General profile characteristics of the Board of Trustees:

  • The Board is enthusiastic about and committed to Jantje Beton’s mission and vision;
  • The Board has knowledge and experience in a variety of fields (cultural, financial, legal, HR, organizational development, political, marketing, and communications) and brings a network of contacts to the table;
  • The Board is characterized by diversity in terms of gender, age, experience, (cultural and professional) background, and personality traits of its individual members;
  • The Council operates as a team: members complement one another both in terms of expertise and in their team roles.

The Supervisory Board expects a new member to:

  • A broad interest in social issues and relevant experience or networks;
  • extensive expertise in financial and economic issues and financial sustainability;
  • possesses administrative and supervisory skills and an understanding of complex organizations;
  • participation in one or more preparatory committees, including the audit committee, approximately four times a year;
  • an understanding of the respective duties and roles of the Supervisory Board and the Executive Director;
  • independence from the CEO and from the other members of the supervisory board, both in a formal sense and in terms of mindset;
  • be able to ask good questions, have the confidence to probe further, and step in when necessary;
  • demonstrate integrity in attitude and conduct and set a good example;
  • have sufficient time available to attend meetings and prepare for them;
  • have a bachelor's or master's degree.

Practical information and procedure

The position is unpaid.

Meetings are held approximately four to five times a year. If necessary, formal consultations may take place between meetings. It is desirable to attend Jantje Beton events on a regular basis.

Subsequently, the nominated candidate will meet with the full Supervisory Board. The appointment is scheduled for July 1, 2025. The interviews with the selection committee are scheduled for:

  • First round of interviews, April 9 (12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
  • Second round of interviews, April 16 (1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
