Doctors of the World is the Dutch branch of the international medical organization Médecins du Monde, which advocates both domestically and abroad for the universal right to health—including the right to and access to healthcare—for people who are excluded from these services. Our organization is staffed by a team of 280 volunteers and 50 paid staff members.
Oral Care
Access to dental care is not a given for everyone. There are various groups of people who, for financial reasons, cannot afford to visit a dentist or dental hygienist. In the medical programs of Doctors of the World (DvdW), including the oral health program, we strive to provide access to oral care for, among others, undocumented individuals, refugees, and people in debt counseling or living below the poverty line. We provide direct dental care through our mobile dental clinic, dental clinics, and referrals to partner practices within the DvdW Compassion Network (where dentists and dental hygienists provide treatment to our target groups for free or for a small fee). We also organize informational sessions on oral hygiene and oral care.
