More about this organization

  • An Online Team Manager with knowledge of and an understanding for the field of communications, as well as the ability to serve as a sounding board for team members and/or clients.

  • Strengthening relationships with all Amsterdammers, colleagues, and interest groups.

The position

You are a people- and results-oriented manager who builds on trust and connection to create an inclusive, safe, and supportive work environment where employees can reach their full potential.

You are responsible for managing the projects. You organize the capacity required for the projects and are accountable for the budget. You ensure that the core and network teams work together in a cohesive, goal-oriented manner, with each member contributing to the project’s communication objectives based on their own expertise and professional knowledge. You provide substantive guidance while adhering to our frameworks and guidelines. In addition, you are also hierarchically responsible for the core team (max. 25 FTE) (e.g., performance evaluation cycle, leave, sick leave, etc.) and ensure the development and proper deployment of your team.

As a team manager, you form part of the broader management team alongside the program managers and the executive team. This management team focuses on substantive issues, discusses the broader context, reviews progress on the annual plan (based on OGSM objectives), examines case studies, and shares insights regarding the intended outcomes and how to work more holistically. In addition, the MT can split into smaller groups with specific and/or temporary areas of focus.

Ideally, the division of labor should be 70% management and 30% content. This depends on the individual and the situation and requires a tailored approach.

Here's what you do on an average day

  • You will oversee and ensure that the City of Amsterdam’s communications are clear, reliable, and accessible to all Amsterdammers, the organization, and the administration;
  • In addition to managing your team, you will also be involved in securing projects and advising clients on staffing and other substantive issues;
  • You will delve into tasks that are a management priority or that are important to the organization;
  • You will ensure that tasks are well organized and, if necessary, take on tasks yourself, depending on the nature of the work and the team.

This is where you get started

We strive to be a great employer that ensures all our colleagues feel seen and valued. We embrace the differences among our colleagues; these differences lead to better results for both our organization and our city.
