Team Leader, Museum Educators
Amsterdam, 32 hours per weekWhat are you going to do?
As Team Manager, you will support and lead the team of museum docents. The team consists of approximately 70 people who, with great enthusiasm and expertise, welcome groups every day for interactive tours and workshops.
You are the linchpin of the organization, liaising between museum docents, visitors, the planning department, and other departments. You build a close-knit team with an open and professional culture, where museum docents are eager to learn from and with one another and inspire each other. You harness and encourage diverse perspectives and areas of expertise within the team.
Examples of your responsibilities:
- Tracking and managing contracts, leave, absences, etc.
- Conducting development and evaluation meetings.
- Daily briefings led by and featuring museum docents.
- Discuss the schedule with the planning department.
- Organizing the exchange of knowledge and expertise among museum educators.
- Tracking training and certifications.
- Recruiting and selecting new museum docents.
Working at the Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum is the Netherlands’ premier museum of art and history, with a collection of over 1 million objects from and about the Netherlands, spanning from the Middle Ages through the 20th century. The Rijksmuseum belongs to and is for everyone.
You will be part of the Public & Education department, and together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for ensuring the high quality of our programs and the visitor experience. As part of a team of three team managers, you will oversee the performance of the museum educators, establish work processes, and provide on-site guidance to the museum educators.

What do you get in return?
- A gross monthly salary of €3,087 to €4,041 based on a 36-hour workweek (Scale 9 of the museum collective bargaining agreement).
- 8% vacation pay and 3.4% year-end bonus.
- A one-year contract with the possibility of renewal.
- Full reimbursement of public transportation costs for trips of 5 km or more (up to a maximum of €345). The costs you incur when you park your bike in a secure bike rack at the station are also fully reimbursed.
- After your probationary period, you will receive a Museum Year Card that grants you unlimited access to 450 museums in the Netherlands. You are always welcome at the Rijksmuseum (during opening hours) with one guest.
- Events such as the summer and winter festivals, the RijksRun, and more.
