Team Leader for the Career and Development Center

Do you have a strong vision for learning and development and leadership at the HR policy level, and do you make an impact by turning policy into concrete actions and successful projects?

Are you passionate about science? Then we’re looking for you! Apply now for the position of: Team Leader, Center for Career & Development, KNAW

What you will be doing

As Team Leader of the Center for Career & Development at the KNAW, you will ensure that learning and development are properly prioritized. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a small team (a career development advisor and an assistant) and shape the professional development of our KNAW staff.

You will be responsible for implementing a leadership vision that aligns with our organization’s strategic objectives. This vision has just been developed, so we are on the verge of implementation, and you will have the opportunity to help shape it further.

The main challenges:

  • Implementing a leadership vision: You analyze trends and developments in the field of leadership and translate these into clear implementation plans that inspire and motivate the leaders in our organization. You set concrete goals and develop action plans to realize the vision and ensure its successful implementation.
  • Establishing a training center for managers: You will develop a structured training program for managers that includes both individual and group training sessions. You will ensure a diverse range of development opportunities—such as coaching, training sessions, and workshops—that align with the specific needs of our managers.
  • Repositioning the Center for Career & Development and identifying strategic learning needs.
  • Establishing and developing a new performance review cycle: You will design and implement a structured performance review cycle for employees that addresses goals, feedback, and (career) development. You will ensure that this cycle is set up and launched effectively and efficiently and contributes to the growth and development of our employees.

What you bring

For this challenging role, you possess a strong command of the subject matter (university-level education and thinking) and can help the team excel. You have broad, up-to-date knowledge of leadership development, learning and development, and the feedback cycle. You have gained this knowledge and experience in a similarly complex, knowledge-intensive environment.

  • You are accustomed to working in a dynamic organization with a diverse group of professionals and know how to add value through your expertise and personality. You exude both professionalism and approachability—toward your immediate colleagues and the rest of the organization.
  • Amid the multitude of tasks and projects on your plate, you bring a sense of calm and know how to set priorities. You stay the course without being rigid—remaining flexible when necessary. The HR policy agenda is ambitious and constantly evolving, but you know how to keep your eyes on the prize with regard to the areas under your responsibility and how to bring your colleagues along with you.
  • You have strong analytical skills and extensive experience with project-based work. Your verbal and written communication skills are excellent—you have no trouble drafting a policy document, preferably one that is short and to the point.
  • You have a strong personality and are decisive. You’re proactive and a doer. You’re also a connector and a networker. You genuinely care about people and have a keen sense of interpersonal relationships and interests, even when they’re complex. Finally, you’re good at keeping things in perspective and have a great sense of humor.
