We are currently looking for a:
Experienced Media Relations Team Leader (0.8–1.0 FTE / 30–37.5 hours)
You’ll lead the press team and ensure that our message reaches the right media outlets. Together, you’ll develop strategies, identify newsworthy angles, and hold major polluters accountable for their climate responsibilities.
What will you be doing?
- You will develop an overarching media strategy within the framework of the general policy plan.
- You translate the media strategy into clear, practical guidelines for the various media relations officers and activities, and ensure that they are properly implemented.
- You oversee the entire media landscape and keep track of the process involving media training, press briefings, press releases, opinion pieces, interviews, and messaging strategies.
- You respond quickly and effectively to current events and news developments, and you also identify long-term trends.
- You creatively seek out new perspectives to influence public debate.
- You serve as a sounding board for the executive board and management.
- You will represent the interests of the press relations team to other departments and management. You will ensure that press relations is well represented in Milieudefensie’s (campaign) activities.
- As part of the press team, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and aligning the work.
- You are responsible for HR matters related to the public relations team, monitor the team’s budget, and prepare reports for management and the executive board.
What are you bringing?
- You have completed a relevant degree program at the associate's degree level.
- You have at least 7 years of work experience as a public relations officer at another charity or nonprofit organization, including several years in a managerial role.
- You have a bird's-eye view of what's happening within the organization and make connections; you coordinate and maintain relationships with other teams.
- You have experience leading a team of professionals in a coaching and collaborative manner.
- You have experience providing strategic advice to executives and management regarding the press
- You have experience managing suppliers and research firms.

Who do you work with?
You will lead a team of seven public relations officers, two of whom also serve in communications roles. In addition, you will collaborate with online marketers, social media experts, data specialists, and communications specialists. You will report to the Head of Communications & Fundraising.
Drawing on your expertise in media relations, you will play a role in one or more projects as part of the “Big Polluters” campaign. This means you will also collaborate with a wide range of colleagues, including campaigners, lobbyists, content specialists, and senior management.
