Would you like to use your financial expertise to help ensure the safety of over a million people? And are you a coaching leader who brings calm and clarity? Then we’re looking for you to join our financial administration team as a team leader! Initially for one year, with the goal of a permanent position.

What will you be doing?

As a team manager, you will lead the financial administration team, which consists of two senior accountants and three accountants. You will guide the team in their professional development. Through your coaching and guidance, you will strengthen the team and prioritize the growth of your employees. During busy periods, you remain calm and excel at setting priorities. At the same time, you work with your team to identify process improvements to make the work smarter and more efficient.

Leadership & Coordination

  • You will lead the team, coordinate activities, and assign tasks.
  • You will serve as a hands-on team manager and actively take on tasks yourself.
  • You’ll work closely with P&C strategic advisors, auditors, and business controllers toward a single goal: robust financial results.
  • You will maintain contact with colleagues in logistics, real estate, procurement, and the line organization.
  • You are one of the points of contact for the accountant.

Substantive duties

  • You and your team will ensure that the accounting records (accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger) are accurate and complete.
  • You prepare the VAT and corporate income tax returns.
  • You will perform internal audits of the records.
  • You will be responsible for treasury tasks such as balance and liquidity management, loan management, and treasury banking.
  • You will prepare for the financial closing and audit.
  • You will serve as a sounding board for the CIF manager.

In the coming period, you will play a key role in the procurement and implementation of a new accounting system. You will leverage the system’s potential to improve processes. Thanks to your entrepreneurial spirit and project management skills, you will bring this project to a successful conclusion.

Who are you?

You are an experienced accountant or financial administration team manager with an affinity for the public sector. Knowledge of the Budgeting and Accountability Decree is a plus, or you are willing to undergo training in this area. The ideal candidate is process-oriented, analytically strong, proactive, and meticulous. At the same time, you are team-oriented and use that approach to achieve your goals. You navigate a political-administrative environment with ease, using humor and flexibility to build support.

You'll recognize yourself in this

  • You must have at least a bachelor’s degree in business or economics;
  • You have at least 5 years of work experience in a managerial role in finance;
  • You have proven experience in maintaining financial records and preparing reports and financial statements;
  • You have experience managing, improving, structuring, and digitizing financial administrative processes;
  • You are familiar with accounting and administrative software, Excel, application management, and reporting tools;
  • You are able to serve as a constructive discussion partner for various employees;
  • You should preferably have experience with the implementation of accounting software;
  • You have preferably gained experience in public or municipal organizations;
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch.

  • Salary in pay grade 11A ranging from €4,686 to €6,551 per month based on a 36-hour workweek.
  • A 36-hour-a-week job
  • An individual flexible spending allowance equal to 18.63% of the gross annual salary.
  • This includes the year-end bonus and vacation pay.
  • 187.2 hours of leave based on a 36-hour workweek, including 43.2 hours of overtime.
  • A one-year appointment, with the possibility of a permanent position.

  • The option to work remotely with a work-from-home allowance of €3 per day.

Organization and Department

The Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region (VrAA) is responsible for providing effective crisis management and firefighting services, with the aim of anticipating risks as effectively as possible, assisting those affected to the best of its ability, minimizing physical and non-physical damage, and restoring normal conditions as quickly as possible.

You will be working in the Control, Information, and Finance (CIF) department. This department is part of the Operations division and serves as the financial heart of the organization. We are responsible for financial policy, planning and control products (including the budget, financial statements, and reports), maintaining financial records, managing the administrative organization, and auditing.

The team consists of highly skilled professionals who are intrinsically motivated to improve this organization and take its financial operations to the next level.
