The Education & Development Department of the Dutch Open Air Museum initiates and develops public programs, exhibitions, and educational concepts that address current, relevant, and social issues. The focus is on fostering mutual understanding and promoting a sustainable approach to nature and culture.
The department focuses on creating a compelling visitor experience for a diverse range of audiences, doing so in an accessible and targeted manner. We are constantly seeking new opportunities, including funding opportunities. We play a key role in strengthening the museum’s public function, both now and in the future. For this multifaceted department, we are seeking an experienced and innovative team leader to manage a team of six concept developers and program creators.
What will you be doing?
- As a collaborative leader, you will lead a team of six concept developers and program creators, inspiring, coaching, and encouraging them to take ownership and demonstrate professional maturity, so that each individual and the team as a whole can excel.
- You will be responsible for helping to draft the departmental plan, contributing to the strategic direction, and optimizing and further developing project- and process-based work, both within the team and organization-wide.
- You will play an active role as a concept developer, helping to create innovative (educational) concepts and programs that enrich and deepen our offerings. Together with the team, you will bring ideas to life in the form of tangible products, exhibitions, and programs, fostering innovation and ensuring smooth collaboration, high quality, and optimal progress.
- You will prepare budgets and schedules, monitor them, and make adjustments as needed.
- Within your team, you are responsible for implementing personnel policies in accordance with established HR policies, and you serve as a liaison between departments, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
What do you bring with you from the past?
- You have a college-level education and at least five years of work experience in the cultural or museum sector, for example as a concept developer and/or educator.
- You have extensive experience managing highly educated professionals.
- You have subject-matter expertise in the fields of education and exhibitions, as well as experience with large and complex projects, including planning, organization, budget management, and leadership.
- You have strong analytical skills and an eye for people’s talents and competencies, which enables you to effectively match people with projects.
- You are able to maintain a clear overview and a calm demeanor, and you possess a strong sense of perspective when preparing and executing complex projects and processes.
- You are analytical, motivational, and a strong communicator.
- If you have a relevant professional network, that is an advantage.
- You have an excellent command of the Dutch language and are proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
Here's what you'll get from us
- You will be offered a one-year contract (with the intention of renewal) for 32 hours per week, with a gross monthly salary ranging from €3,768 to €4,897, depending on your experience and based on a 36-hour workweek, in accordance with Scale 10 of the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Travel reimbursement: 100% if you use public transportation; otherwise, €0.23 per kilometer, up to a maximum of 50 kilometers one way.
- A vacation bonus equal to 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 3.4%.
- 201.6 vacation hours per year based on full-time employment.
