Are you interested in politics and looking for a dynamic, fast-paced work environment? Do you enjoy providing high-level support to our Clerk and President? Are you someone who thrives in a relatively small organization with short lines of communication and broad responsibilities? That sounds like an excellent fit for the position of Senior Management Assistant at the Senate!

Job Description

One of my primary responsibilities is supporting our Clerk. He is ultimately responsible for the administrative organization of the Senate. A nice aspect of this role is that the work naturally involves a great deal of variety. Tuesdays, for example, are reserved for Senate debates. This is the most intense day for the Clerk, and it’s all hands on deck in the office and in the meeting rooms as well. Other days are more focused on preparing for or implementing the decisions that have been made. Work visits also take place on these days, or we receive (foreign) visitors. During recess periods, the House does not meet, and we have more time for professional development, drafting policy plans, and updating our work processes.

Your support role is wide-ranging. For example, you ensure the proper management of email inboxes and calendars, prepare correspondence, and archive relevant documents. You manage contact information, organize meetings, and assist your “clients” in using applications and systems. You also represent the Registrar in internal project groups. In all these tasks, you think ahead and put yourself in the shoes of others. Who needs to be informed? What actions need to be taken? What information does the Registrar need? You pick up on things quickly and can accurately assess which tasks you can handle yourself and which ones should be left to them. Fortunately, you’re not on your own in this. You’ll work closely in a team with an experienced colleague, and other colleagues will also provide expert input from their respective fields.

In addition to providing direct support to the Clerk, we would appreciate it if you could also take on organization-wide tasks. This might involve assisting a department head, or helping to organize events. Examples include a role within the Association of Former Senators or the organization of symposia and lectures. This will give you a broad perspective on the work of the Senate, enabling you to support the Clerk even more effectively. At the same time, it offers you the opportunity for personal growth.

Job Requirements

As a management assistant at the Senate, you are, at your core, service-oriented and a team player. You enjoy working with a wide variety of personalities. You take pleasure in supporting your colleagues, but you also know how to set your own boundaries. For example, you have a good sense of when to draw the line and when to let things slide. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, have an optimistic attitude, and are skilled at motivating people and getting things done.

In terms of skills, you are detail-oriented, organized, and empathetic. You also have:

  • HBO-level academic and intellectual ability;
  • At least ten years of work experience in executive support. Preferably in multiple organizations within or outside the federal government;
  • Fluency in both Dutch and English;
  • Proficiency with applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.

Terms of Employment

Salary level 9

Monthly salary: Min. €3,484 – Max. €4,868 (gross)

Employment Status: Fixed-term employment contract with the possibility of conversion to a permanent contract

Other terms and conditions of employment

In addition to your salary, you will receive a flexible benefits package (IKB). The IKB consists of monetary benefits (16.50% of your gross annual salary) and time off. With the IKB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment benefits. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on tax-friendly purposes. The Dutch government is strongly committed to personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this. The fringe benefits include various study facilities, company fitness programs, full reimbursement of your public transportation costs for commuting, and partially paid parental leave.

Details

  • We want to give you a clear and comprehensive picture of the role, your colleagues, and the context of our organization. That’s why we’re organizing two in-person interviews at our office, where you’ll have the chance to talk with teammates, your “clients,” and HR, and get a feel for the atmosphere firsthand.
  • Naturally, we also hope to get as complete a picture of you as possible. As part of this process, an assessment and reference check (both online and by phone) will be included in the selection process.
  • This position occasionally requires some flexibility. Work within the Senate often takes place outside of regular office hours, and your presence may be required on such occasions.
  • To ensure effective support and positioning, we believe it is important for this role to be based in the office. Therefore, opportunities for remote work are limited.
  • If you are already employed by the government under a permanent contract, we will assume that contract.
  • Do you have any questions about this procedure? Please contact Roel Joosten, HR Advisor, at 06-11750372.
  • You can respond until October 25
