Job Description

Accelerating the transition to a sustainable industry, with a specific focus on the Netherlands’ major industrial companies? You’ll be leading the charge in The Hague. As a senior policy officer, you’ll work on the industry’s transition and, in particular, on a tailored approach for major CO2 emitters. We are working toward a sustainable industry by 2050: an industry that is both climate-neutral and competitive. In this way, you will make a valuable contribution to a major ecological, social, and economic challenge.

You will be part of the deal team for Tata Steel Netherlands (TSN) and will work with the team to develop a customized agreement with TSN aimed at creating a sustainable, clean, and future-proof steel company in IJmuiden. This involves close collaboration with TSN, management teams within the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK), as well as with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Province of North Holland, the North Sea Canal Area Environmental Service, and local municipalities. Given the social and political significance of this issue, additional support is needed on the policy side.

We are looking for someone to join our team who can work independently and decisively, has relevant experience, and whom we can rely on within the team—someone to whom we can entrust tasks without the need for a lengthy training period.

Your job responsibilities include the following tasks:

  • Coordinating policy positions and messaging among the various government agencies in their dealings with the media and the political sphere.

Job Requirements

You have experience in policy advising within a dynamic political and administrative context. You are decisive and action-oriented. You are a professional representative of our ministry and a valued partner for other stakeholders. You have an affinity for the industry and the sustainability challenges facing this sector. You are able to build connections between the various stakeholders. You are able to adapt quickly and draw on your own expertise to work in highly varied environments and teams.

  • You have a university degree or demonstrable work experience at the university level, preferably in a technical, public administration, or business-related field.
  • You have extensive experience in policy consulting in a dynamic environment.
  • You have a keen sense of political and administrative dynamics. This means you have a strong understanding of the interests of the various stakeholders and the administrative dynamics, and can collaborate effectively with them.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and can quickly translate the story behind the rules and figures into an accessible text or presentation.
  • You are able to handle stress well and possess creativity and perseverance.
