(Senior) Policy Officer, General Economic Policy (AEP)

Job Description

Work at the heart of economic decision-making in the Netherlands. You’ll do just that at the General Economic Policy (AEP) Directorate of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in The Hague. As a (senior) policy officer, you’ll tackle complex policy issues with a fresh economic perspective, boldness, and creativity. You will contribute to proposals from an economic perspective and provide advice with an eye for political dynamics and from a broad perspective on prosperity.

We are looking for new colleagues to provide advice on topics such as a sustainable and competitive economy, business policy, public finances, and mobility. Would you like to work in these policy areas to help make sound decisions for a better Netherlands? If so, we warmly invite you to apply.

In short, your responsibilities as a policy officer at AEP will include the following:

Keeping abreast of current events, responding to new developments, conducting in-depth analyses, bringing these to the attention of top political and civil service officials, and providing recommendations for, for example, the preparation of civil service briefings, sub-councils, and the Council of Ministers.

To operate effectively, you need to build a strong network—both within and across departments, as well as with external experts—so that you can be involved early in the policymaking process and proactively influence policy development.

AEP offers you a diverse range of work, a variety of topics, and the opportunity to apply economic theory in practice.

The job openings are in the Public Sector and Labor Market (CSA) and Macroeconomics, Planning, and Sustainable Economy (MODE) clusters.

  • You have a keen understanding of the political and administrative landscape and are therefore able to translate your analyses into recommendations for senior civil servants and political leaders.
