Make an impact in your industry!
Are you confident, do you have an eye for the changing landscape in our industries, and do you possess natural leadership skills? Do you know how to bring people together and take the initiative when needed? Then we’re looking for you!
As a Sector Director at De Horecabond, you’ll make a real difference on the front lines as the face of the industry. You’ll advocate for the collective interests of our members and workers in the Netherlands and ensure their voices are heard in the push for better pay and working conditions—especially in our dynamic industry, where boundaries are blurring.
What will you be doing?
Advocacy for collective interests:
- You will negotiate the sector-wide collective bargaining agreement and other collective agreements, ensuring that the interests of members and workers always come first, even in complex situations such as the “changing landscape” in our sectors (e.g., the blurring of industry boundaries);
- You ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement;
- With your natural authority and decisiveness, you engage in discussions with employees, employers, and other stakeholders. You analyze and resolve problems without losing sight of labor relations;
- You represent De Horecabond in your sector in the media, on various committees and with various foundations, and you always stay up to date on what’s going on with our members.
Developing and implementing sectoral policy:
- You will translate our policies and the core values of De Horecabond—progressive, passionate, knowledgeable, helpful, and unifying—into concrete plans for your sector.
- You track and identify trends and respond to them strategically. Blurring? You know exactly how to tackle this issue.
- You will lead projects and campaigns that empower our members.
Motivating and retaining active members:
- You build strong relationships with both existing and new members. You stay in regular contact with them, understand their concerns, and ensure they remain members.
- You organize training sessions and meetings to educate members and help them become more skilled in their field and more self-reliant.
- Want to recruit new members? You do that with enthusiasm and persuasiveness.
Networking and connecting:
- You will build a strong network, both within and outside De Horecabond. You will leverage this network to achieve our goals.
- You are a unifying force, whether you’re talking to workers, the press, other organizations, or within our own group. Everyone knows they can count on you. You use your network strategically to advance the interests of workers.
What do we expect from you?
We expect you to be results-oriented, knowledgeable, and able to work independently. As a Sector Director, you are driven by a desire to systematically improve the world for workers in your sector, with a commercial mindset. Experience working with a labor union is a plus, but we believe it is more important that you understand what workers need and that you work with all your colleagues to help strengthen and defend their rights. Furthermore:
- Experience working in a changing industry, along with the ability to think innovatively about union work and respond to trends and developments, is a must;
- With your natural charisma, you know how to get things done with tact, integrity, and effective communication skills;
- Taking the initiative comes naturally to you. You don't wait around—you act quickly and effectively;
- You offer constructive criticism;
- You have broad general knowledge; an understanding of socio-economic issues and knowledge of the sectors is a plus;
- You have a solid understanding of labor law, social security law, and employment terms and conditions;
- You have a bachelor's degree or higher and hold a Class B driver's license;
- You have completed the Executive Leadership Program or have at least 3 years of executive experience;
- You know our core values and embody them in everything you do.
What do we offer?
- A challenging role in which you’ll truly make a difference for thousands of workers;
- An independent role with plenty of room for ideas and collaboration;
- An organization with an informal and stimulating work environment;
- An energetic team of colleagues with whom you’ll work to shape the future of the Dutch workforce;
- A contract for 32 hours per week with a competitive salary based on pay scale 14 of the FNV collective bargaining agreement (€4,544.99 – €6,467.76);
- Vacation pay (8.33%) and a year-end bonus (8.33%);
- Generous employee benefits, including the mobility allowance;
- Plenty of opportunities for training and development;
- A hybrid role. In the field, at home, and also at the office in Almere.
