Are you an experienced relationship manager? Do you know how to approach major donor prospects, how to build a warm, lasting relationship with them, and how to inspire them to make significant donations? And would you like to put your skills to work for one of the most inspiring and challenging fundraising organizations in the Netherlands? Then we’re looking for you!
Since 1913, the Erasmus Trust Fund has been dedicated to the growth and prosperity of Erasmus University Rotterdam. It is a hybrid fund that provides financial support for scientific research and students using both returns on its own capital and funds raised from external sources. Erasmus University Rotterdam urgently needs this additional funding to continue competing with other universities on a global scale.
A sense of unity, drive, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm. That sums up the atmosphere within the Erasmus Trust Fund team. And ambition: together with the Executive Board of Erasmus University, a strategic decision has been made to significantly expand the fund into a university fund modeled after the American system. This offers you the opportunity to develop your skills at the highest level in a unique environment.
To help facilitate our planned growth, the Erasmus Trust Fund is seeking a collaborative, outgoing, detail-oriented, and self-motivated: Major Donor Relationship Manager (32–40 hours).
What will you be doing?
- You’ll be joining an enthusiastic, ambitious team of seven dedicated and motivated colleagues. The work environment is positive and welcoming, with a strong emphasis on team spirit while still allowing you to work independently;
- You will be (jointly) responsible for the successful implementation of the major donor recruitment strategy;
- You’ll work closely with the senior major donor relationship manager: you’ll serve as each other’s sounding board, collaborate on major donor outreach strategies, and then typically reach out to major donors on your own;
- You will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and developing one-on-one relationships with major individual donors;
- You are a substantive and inspiring conversation partner for both your immediate colleagues and the fund’s major donors;
- You will develop tailored proposals and offer customized solutions to encourage them to donate to the Erasmus Trust Fund;
- You are confident in engaging with anyone to inspire potential major donors, with integrity and conviction, to say “yes” to the proposals the fund presents to them;
- Even after a donation, you remain fully committed to engaging major donors with the Erasmus Trust Fund.
What does the Erasmus Trust Fund offer?
- An independent role with plenty of freedom and opportunities to learn and grow as a relationship manager;
- A challenging and rewarding role where you can make a real difference in society;
- One of the few places in the Netherlands where major donors are engaged at the highest level;
- An inspiring, ambitious work environment with direct lines of communication within the team and with the fund’s board;
- A competitive salary: depending on your knowledge and experience, €2,960–€4,670 for full-time employment (40 hours);
- A one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal;
- Attractive benefits package (pension plan, laptop, and phone);
- Great coffee at the office, but also the option to work from home.
What do you bring to the table?
- You have a college degree and/or the academic ability and mindset of a college graduate;
- You have at least 5 years of work experience;
- You have experience in managing external relationships, preferably in the role of relationship or account manager;
- Experience in connecting major donors to a nonprofit organization is a plus,but not required;
- The (potential) major donors to the Erasmus Trust Fund are primarily affluent alumni of Erasmus University: you feel right at home in a university setting and among this target group;
- You know exactly how to close a deal, enjoy doing so, and love celebrating successes with your colleagues;
- You’re a true self-starter, you’re confident and professional;
- You have strong writing skills and are an inspiring conversationalist;
- You have an (excellent) command of English, both spoken and written;
