Do you have a way with words, know better than anyone how to build and manage relationships with foundations and grants, and want to put your fundraising skills to work for one of the most inspiring and challenging foundations in the Netherlands? Then we’re looking for you!
Since 1913, the Erasmus Trust Fund has been dedicated to the growth and prosperity of Erasmus University Rotterdam. It is a hybrid fund that provides financial support for scientific research and students using both returns on its own capital and funds raised from external sources. Erasmus University Rotterdam urgently needs this additional funding to continue competing with other universities on a global scale.
A sense of unity, drive, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm. That sums up the atmosphere within the Erasmus Trust Fund team. And ambition: together with the Executive Board of Erasmus University, a strategic decision has been made to significantly expand the fund into a university endowment modeled after the American system. An unprecedented challenge by Dutch standards, offering the opportunity to develop yourself in a unique environment at the highest level.
To help facilitate our planned growth, the Erasmus Trust Fund is seeking a collaborative, entrepreneurial, equally ambitious, and above all, highly organized: Relationship Manager for Funds & Foundations (32–40 hours)
What will you be doing?
- First and foremost: join a team that knows how to get things done, loves working together to make the impossible possible, and is committed to achieving big goals;
- You will be taking the initiative and “building” relationships: you will seek out new foundations and endowment funds to connect with Erasmus University. You will identify their needs, align them with their objectives, and then present a customized funding proposal;
- You will maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to identify promising projects and gather information for your funding proposals;
- You’ll be responsible for translating detailed scientific project proposals into inspiring, concise texts for potential funders and other stakeholders;
- You stay up to date and keep an eye out for opportunities: you’re aware of current social issues and serve as a strong partner to the disbursement manager in identifying a compelling selection of projects;
- You maintain existing relationships and are committed to building long-term partnerships with them;
- You work in a structured manner and ensure that accurate and timely reports are submitted to foundations and endowment funds regarding approved project proposals;
- You will report to the Managing Director, who also serves as Head of Development. You will also work closely with colleagues in Disbursement and Marketing & Communications. Together, we’re stronger!
- You keep your (internal) stakeholders informed about the progress of the projects they have supported or proposed, and inspire them to remain committed to the goals of the Erasmus Trust Fund.
What does the Erasmus Trust Fund offer?
- You’ll become part of an enthusiastic and ambitious team of seven dedicated and motivated colleagues. The work environment is positive and welcoming, with a strong emphasis on team spirit, while also offering ample opportunity to work independently;
- A competitive salary: depending on your knowledge and experience, €3,974–€5,439 for full-time employment (40 hours);
- A challenging and rewarding role where you can make a real difference in society;
- An inspiring and ambitious work environment with short lines of communication and great coffee;
- Option to work from home;
- A one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal;
- Attractive benefits package (including a pension plan and a laptop);
What do you bring to the table?
- You have a college degree and/or the academic ability and mindset of a college graduate;
- You have relevant experience: preferably at least 2 years of experience in fundraising or relationship management with foundations and endowment funds within a nonprofit organization;
- You have a way with words and are able to translate academic projects into suitable proposals for Dutch foundations and endowment funds;
- You work independently, in a structured and meticulous manner;
- You are an enthusiastic networker and able to build, develop, nurture, and maintain relationships;
- You have an interest in science. Having studied at Erasmus University Rotterdam is a plus.
