An aging population, a tight labor market, complex healthcare financing, the limits of cure and treatment, growing health disparities, and a changing demographic makeup—these are developments in our society that will challenge and shape us in the coming years. The Council for Public Health and Society (RVS) provides advice on these societal challenges, transcending the boundaries of existing fields and disciplines. The RVS is seeking two new council members with broad knowledge of public health, healthcare, and society who wish to contribute to a sustainable framework for public health, healthcare, and society in the Netherlands.

Who are we?

The RVS is an independent advisory body to the government and parliament. The RVS provides both solicited and unsolicited advice. As a strategic and independent advisory body, the Council contributes to high-quality policy and decision-making at the intersection of public health, healthcare, and society. We do this by bringing issues to the forefront, providing information on them, and guiding political and social debate.

As the government’s strategic advisory body, the RVS serves as an inspiring advisor to the Netherlands. To fulfill this role, we must stay connected to society, and we can only do so if we understand what is happening in society and maintain contact with various groups and organizations. That is why we are looking for candidates who are able and willing to help build these connections. The RVS values diversity and inclusion. In our selection process, we take into account diversity of background in the broadest sense.

The Council consists of ten independent members, with Jet Bussemaker serving as chair. In preparing its recommendations, the Council is supported by a staff of approximately 30 advisors and support staff. The staff is led by the director, who also serves as general secretary.

About our work agenda

The “&” in the Council for Public Health and Society is central to the three priorities of the 2024–2028 work agenda. Within each priority, a number of advisory topics will be addressed in the coming years.
