Batavialand is on the verge of a major transformation. We plan to consolidate the three locations and their associated functions into a single site. We are currently laying the groundwork for this transformation and developing a revised vision that includes a new integrated museum concept. We are working closely with the three government bodies investing in this transformation: the Province of Flevoland, the national government, and the Municipality of Lelystad.

The Supervisory Board

Batavialand has a Board of Trustees that oversees the achievement of its (social) objectives within the broadest possible framework, as well as the general conduct of business within the foundation and its affiliated organization.

The Supervisory Board plays a supervisory, advisory, and employer role, which it carries out in a professional and independent manner. The members advise the director, both upon request and on their own initiative. The board is responsible for its own composition and ensures expertise, diversity, and independence. The board strives for a diverse membership.

This supervisory role applies, in any case, to:

  • achieving Batavialand's social mission
  • the organization's strategy, identity, and continuity;
  • dialogue with internal and external stakeholders;
  • compliance with laws and regulations;
  • fulfilling the role of employer vis-à-vis the board
  • operations, risk management, and business policy.

The general qualities of the members;

  • Strategic thinking;
  • The right balance between involvement and administrative distance;
  • The ability and willingness to support the executive by offering advice and serving as a sounding board, while maintaining a broad perspective and a holistic view;

Administrative experience

The candidate has proven administrative and/or supervisory experience, as well as a solid understanding of the principles of good governance. The candidate has a vision regarding societal developments that also impact Museum Batavialand. Drawing on their own perspective, the candidate can make a constructive contribution to the supervisory role.

Specific qualities

  • Experience in or with the artistic and curatorial aspects of a museum
  • Experience with a museum's business model
  • An interest in history and/or science and technology museums
  • An interest in archaeology and/or education

Availability

The Supervisory Board meets 4–5 times a year. One or more working visits and/or meetings are held annually. In addition, there are two committees: the Compensation Committee and the Audit Committee. Once a new member joins, it is customary to reassign areas of focus or portfolios, including that of the chair.

Compensation and Appointment

Members receive an attendance allowance and reimbursement for travel expenses.
