A unique opportunity! A position as project manager for the Rotterdam Unit to ensure that our organization keeps pace with the times. Would you like to join our small Digital Transformation program team, which is actively driving, developing, and embedding initiatives? Then we’re looking for you!
When you join the program team, you’ll work on strengthening data-driven practices. Various steps have already been taken toward this goal within the force and the unit, but there is still plenty to do. For example, there is a national Data-Driven Collaboration Program, tools are being developed under national coordination, and the CSAE model (Collect, Store, Analyze, and Engage) has been adopted to ensure that everyone speaks the same language. Data scientists and data engineers are already working in national and regional teams within the police force, and digital forensics is high on the agenda.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with digital experts and operational generalists in our unit to further implement data-driven practices. You’ll gain a deep understanding of the subject matter by engaging with experts, though you yourself are not a subject matter expert. Your expertise lies in the process, and you know how to turn smart ideas into reality. You’ll serve as a sounding board for the operational team, as well as a coach and supporter.
You support operations by ensuring that employees from various disciplines come together, that ideas for improvement are documented in short-term project plans, and that these plans are presented at the appropriate decision-making meetings. In addition to building support at the operational level, you must also secure support at the tactical and strategic levels. You will work on this in collaboration with the team’s program managers.
In addition to projects related to data-driven work, you may also be assigned to other projects over time, in consultation with the program managers. This decision is based not only on the nature of the work but also on your professional development needs. Currently, the focus of data-driven work is on information management and criminal investigation, but in the future, that focus may shift more toward frontline police operations. It is also expected that the development of Artificial Intelligence will have an increasing impact on the unit and may come to constitute a larger part of your work.
You will join the Digital Transformation Program Team. This team was established in 2022 and consists of two program managers, six project leaders, and administrative support. It is a dynamic team where collaboration, connection, and open communication are paramount. Furthermore, the professional development of team members is a key priority in which we continuously invest. Our team consists of both colleagues with police training who have advanced within the organization and people who come from outside the police force.
The program team is tasked with supporting the Rotterdam Unit in a broad sense during its digital transformation, so that the unit can keep pace with today’s developments and meet the challenges of the future. This includes strengthening leadership, tackling digital crime and cybercrime, online policing, and data-driven work. To effectively support the digital transformation, we work closely within the program team and with operations on all projects. Project leaders are given the freedom to shape the projects as they see fit, in consultation with the program managers.
In addition, all project leaders and program managers are assigned one or more districts and/or departments, where we regularly participate in meetings related to Digital Transformation. This gives us a firsthand understanding of the dilemmas and challenges facing the organization, enabling us to support them even more effectively.
Contributing to the advancement of data-driven work—that’s what gets you excited. You can work independently and are eager to develop your skills. You’re a natural at networking and know how to position yourself effectively within the organization. You’re confident and don’t get easily thrown off balance. You enjoy seeking out new ideas and the most suitable solutions. You’re not afraid to take the plunge and lead the way.
You are also flexible and work well within a small, close-knit team. In addition, you have a decisive and meticulous approach to your work. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills. We highly value enthusiasm and a healthy sense of humor.
