At Imagine IC, we work every day to build a society where everyone participates on an equal footing. We engage in conversations about heritage in the broadest sense of the word—in the heart of Amsterdam Zuidoost, together with the OBA at Bijlmerplein.
After three terms, two of our board members are stepping down. We are therefore looking for two new board members who are eager to contribute to our work and our mission with their knowledge, network, and vision.

Imagine IC is a pioneer in fostering dialogue about heritage, located in the heart of Amsterdam Zuidoost. We are a hybrid of an archive and a museum, and we operate out of the space we share with the Amsterdam Bijlmerplein Public Library. Here, we work together to create a vibrant and accessible gathering place for in-depth exploration and conversation.
Our mission? Imagine IC is committed to a society in which everyone participates as equals. To a city where every voice counts. To bring this vision to life, we strive for heritage democracy: a multifaceted and equitable reflection of society when it comes to history and heritage. Heritage tells us who we are together and who we want to become. With many different people, we give meaning to things that matter. In this way, we work toward an inclusive and diverse collective memory. With a small but dedicated team, we work every day to connect diverse networks through heritage conversations. After three terms of great commitment, dedication, and expertise, two board members are stepping down this year. This creates two new vacancies on our board.
The board of the Imagine IC Foundation plays a crucial role in guiding our organization toward its next phase of growth and impact. Together with the executive board, the board is responsible for setting the strategic direction, overseeing financial matters, and ensuring that Imagine IC’s mission is upheld. In addition, the board serves as a sounding board for the executive team and provides both solicited and unsolicited advice, whether or not related to immediate issues. Personal commitment, professional detachment, firmness, and accessibility go hand in hand in this regard.
The board meets at least four (4) times a year and strives for diversity in terms of gender, age, and background. Imagine IC adheres to the Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Diversity and Inclusion Code.
We are looking for candidates who share our mission and vision. You are already familiar with the role of a board member and related governance practices, or you are willing to develop your professional skills in this area. You are characterized by strategic insight, a collaborative spirit, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
For this role, we are seeking a new board member with a relevant network in the cultural sector in Amsterdam (Southeast). Like many cultural organizations, Imagine IC faces the challenge of securing a stable and sustainable source of funding. By working to increase the visibility of our work, being open to new collaborations, and exploring other ways to put our organization firmly on the map, you can and are willing to make a significant contribution to this effort.
Imagine IC shares its home with the OBA on Bijlmerplein in Amsterdam Zuidoost. For Imagine IC, it is essential to continue exploring options for a location that is accessible, inclusive, connected, and affordable. We are looking for a board member who preferably has experience with real estate and housing issues and can advise us on future plans.
As a board member of Imagine IC, you’ll contribute to addressing important social issues in Amsterdam Zuidoost and beyond. You can apply your vision and experience to strengthen our organization. You’ll do this as part of a motivated and professional team of fellow board members, all of whom serve on a volunteer basis and take great pleasure in their work. Through Imagine IC, you’ll expand your network in the cultural sector, learn from, and share insights with fellow board members, staff, and other stakeholders.
As a new board member, you’ll be committing to Imagine IC for at least three years. Would you like to learn more about our organization? Visit imagineic.nl/about
