Would you like to help build a community library for, by, and of all Amsterdammers? Then come meet us.
The OBA is transforming from a traditional lending library into a community library. In this library of the future, we will work closely with visitors, neighbors, partners, and volunteers so that we can offer even more frequent and better information, knowledge, and cultural activities to, for, and with people in the neighborhood. In professional terms, we call this a community library. We want to be an inspiring place where neighbors can meet and share knowledge.
To strengthen the management team, the OBA is looking for a Manager for the Zuidoost/Ouder-Amstel District (m/f/x) for 36 hours per week.
As a district manager, you are responsible for the regular OBA branches in Southeast Amsterdam: OBA Bijlmerplein, Reigersbos, and Ganzenhoef; and in Ouder-Amstel: OBA Duivendrecht and Ouderkerk.
You will coach and lead a team of approximately 20–25 colleagues and a growing group of volunteers. You will foster a cheerful, safe work environment and promote positive collaboration within the team and with other OBA colleagues. In doing so, you are responsible for all aspects of the team: recruitment and selection, personal development, and daily staffing. Together with the team, you ensure that residents of Amsterdam and Ouder-Amstel feel welcome at our locations and enjoy visiting them to (share) information, find inspiration, socialize, and relax. In addition, you will maintain close working relationships with a diverse range of partners. You are able to translate strategic plans into an implementation agenda for your district.
You start the week with the monthly team meeting. Together, you watch the monthly OBA talk show, then you update your team on the latest developments and get to work with them on creating the summer schedule. In the afternoon, you take the subway to the headquarters at Oosterdok for a meeting about a new scheduling tool. On Tuesday, you conduct two interviews with potential new employees. At the end of the day, you log in online to catch up with team managers from other districts. On Wednesday morning, you get a call; a colleague is sick. Together with your district coordinator, you figure out the staffing puzzle and then bike to Kraaiennest to go over the opening of the new OBA Next pavilion. On Thursday, you meet with your core team to go over the schedule for the coming period. Together with the community-focused developer, you have an afternoon meeting with co-locator Imagine IC. On Friday morning, you have a meeting with the HR advisor. That afternoon, you catch up on your email and paperwork; in the meantime, you have time to call a few colleagues and keep an eye on things at the Reigersbos branch. And just like that, the week is over!

Everyone is welcome at the OBA and is given an equal opportunity. In a city with more than 900,000 unique Amsterdammers, we want to see this diverse mix reflected among our staff, volunteers, and interns. Feel free to apply for this position.
