Amstelland Library is the leading organization for knowledge and culture in the Amstelland region. Active in Amstelveen, Aalsmeer, and Uithoorn, the library is more vibrant than ever. Our goal is to have more and more visitors who all leave happy and inspired. That is why, in the coming years, we will be working on a number of key themes, such as: getting more children to read, helping people participate in the digital world, and enriching our cultural offerings with unique programming. Together with residents and partners, we want to achieve these goals. An ambition like this is not only important but also makes our work very enjoyable.
The Public Service Manager Position (
) We are looking for an experienced and dedicated manager who will work alongside the Management Team and staff to achieve our goals in the area of Public Service. This manager will lead the Public Service team (14.36 FTE), which is responsible for service delivery at four locations. This team consists of 8 customer service staff, 11 information and media advisors, 1 volunteer coordinator, and 1 public services assistant (in addition, there are 6 on-call staff, 23 library assistants, and 90 volunteers). As Public Services Manager, you will work closely with the director and your colleagues in other organizational units to ensure seamless coordination between departments.
Together with your dedicated team, you will engage with the local community to promote language skills, the joy of reading, media literacy, and digital and cultural development. In doing so, you set clear guidelines for your team, foster creativity, and encourage the growth of your staff. In your role as Public Services Manager, you will also work to strengthen the library’s external presence by networking with our partners and municipalities. You will establish contacts, maintain relationships, and pursue additional grants.
In addition, you will be a member of our management team, which is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s policies and (financial) objectives. Project-based work and process management are key components of the phase the organization is currently in. Later this year, we will begin the process of developing a new long-term vision, in which the three social challenges facing the library will be clearly addressed.
What do you bring to the table?
You know how to lead in an inspiring way and how to apply different leadership styles to create maximum support. Even at an early stage, you can identify, analyze, and weigh opportunities and developments, and translate them into an attractive service package for customers and partners. After all, you know that achieving quality and results is essential to the success of our library. You have a vision and know how to translate it into a clear approach with a defined focus.
You do this together with your team, because you enjoy bringing out the best in your employees and seeing them grow under your coaching leadership. In a rapidly changing environment, this can be quite challenging, but you have an eye for what’s happening on the ground and are able to build connections. You are a colleague who can be relied upon both within and outside the organization because you are trustworthy, clear, and transparent in your interactions. You think in terms of solutions and are capable of making decisions, but above all, you are people- and customer-oriented; after all, service is in your DNA.
Networking comes naturally to you because you have knowledge of local (political) dynamics, or you pick this up easily. You can work in a target-group-oriented manner, understand the value of marketing and publicity, and know how to use this to the library’s advantage. Finally, you have at least 5 years of relevant work experience, during which you have held demonstrable leadership roles within the public service sector and/or hospitality.
What do we offer you?
We offer you a challenging and varied position with room for initiative. You will be working in an enthusiastic (management) team within a dynamic and welcoming organization where passionate employees collaborate on major social ambitions. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Public Libraries and depend on knowledge and work experience. The position is classified in scale 11. Salary range between €4,241 and €5,527 for a 36-hour workweek, excluding vacation pay and year-end bonus.
