As the largest component of the cultural sector, Dutch museums are uniquely positioned to connect with society and bring together a wide variety of perspectives and people. Each museum tells a unique story, sparks conversations, and fosters cultural development. They showcase the past, tell our stories, and work toward a shared future. Because museums belong to and are for everyone.

The Museum Association is the trade association representing 487 museums in the Netherlands. Our mission is to create a future-proof museum sector with which everyone feels a sense of connection. Through five key priorities, we foster connections with the public, encourage and facilitate knowledge sharing among members, and advocate for the interests of the museum sector with the government.

Who are we looking for?

The Museum Association focuses, among other things, on broadening the audience and increasing museums’ revenue-generating capacity. An important tool used to achieve this is the Museum Card, an initiative resulting from collaboration among participating museums. In these challenging times, the continuity of the Museum Card is of crucial importance to the entire museum sector. That is why we are looking for an energetic and inspiring IT Manager for the Museum Card, who will contribute with enthusiasm and vision to the further development and strengthening of this valuable initiative.

As the IT Manager for the Museum Card, you play a crucial role within the organization. You are responsible for the overall strategy, coordination, and evaluation of IT, thereby contributing to the efficient and effective operations of the organization, in line with its goals. As a project leader, you manage internal colleagues from various departments and monitor progress and communication with external IT partners. Your core team is the Operations Department, where you work side-by-side with the Head of Operations. Together, you keep track of the operational workflow and identify areas for improvement. You report to the Director and attend Management Team or Board meetings as needed.

What will you be doing?

Duties and responsibilities:

  • You identify technological needs and opportunities, use your expertise to provide input on the long-term strategy and associated objectives, and translate these into an IT roadmap.
  • You will provide advice to the director and the management team, both when asked and on your own initiative, in your area of expertise.
  • Defining the project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developing detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with external IT vendors
  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with various IT partners.
  • You are responsible for implementing IT governance structures to manage and monitor IT investments and initiatives.
  • You ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Developing and managing the IT budget (multi-year budget) to ensure cost-effective service delivery.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems and networks.
  • Implementing and managing cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Conducting risk analyses to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.

What are we looking for?

  • You have extensive experience (at least 5 years) as the person with final responsibility for IT in a project management role.
  • You have experience developing and implementing strategic IT policies.
  • You have strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • You are a coaching leader who empowers your team members and gives them autonomy.
  • You are results-oriented with a proven track record of successfully delivering IT projects

What do we offer?

  • A wonderful position at the heart of the museum world and the opportunity to make a difference in a sector of great social significance;
  • A position (initially a one-year contract) for 32–36 hours per week;
  • The opportunity to work remotely and in the vibrant setting of Pakhuis de Zwijger;
  • Position under the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement, Grade 13, with a salary range of €4,784 to €6,853 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek;
  • A commuting allowance, a work-from-home policy, and, of course, a Museum Card for yourself and to give away.

After a review of their applications, candidates will be invited to an initial interview. The Museum Association is an inclusive organization and strives to ensure that its team composition reflects society. We believe that by bringing together diverse people, we gain greater insights and can further enhance the social value of our work in innovative, creative, and positive ways. Does this perspective resonate with you? If so, we look forward to receiving your application!
