Colourful People is introducing an HR Manager role at an organization that needs almost no introduction: the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. We are looking for a strong, results-oriented HR professional who can revitalize, develop, and continuously improve HR policies.
About the Stedelijk Museum
The Stedelijk Museum is a place where everyone can discover and experience modern and contemporary art and design, 365 days a year. The Stedelijk targets a national and international audience and, with over 660,000 visitors annually, ranks as the fifth most-visited museum in the Netherlands. Its collection features renowned artists, and it offers a vibrant and high-profile exhibition program ranging from major crowd-pleasers to groundbreaking exhibitions showcasing young artists and designers. Over the past 125 years, the Stedelijk Museum has built a strong reputation as a platform for world-class artists, many of whom were featured early in their careers.
The Position
An HR role that captures the imagination. As HR Manager at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, you will serve as the HR sparring partner for the executive team and board on HR issues and organizational development. The Stedelijk Museum’s executive team aims to further develop the Stedelijk into a museum that is dynamic, distinctive, participatory, accessible, and self-critical. More than ever, the Stedelijk wants to take responsibility for envisioning a shared and tolerant society in which everyone feels at home—artists, visitors, and its own employees.
As an HR Manager, you play a key role in organizational development. You translate organizational objectives into appropriate, modern, and forward-looking HR policies and corresponding HR tools. Together with senior management, you raise the profile of HR even further. You are an inspiring leader for your HR team and structure your team optimally to support the desired developments. You take a critical look at areas for improvement and translate them into concrete plans, projects, and implementations.
Together with your HR team, you will also be responsible for handling all HR matters at the Stedelijk, such as:
- The annual preparation, updating, and implementation of the HR policy plan. You will advise the executive team and managers on the implementation of HR policy and other HR-related matters;
- Preparing the annual personnel budget in collaboration with the Finance Manager, and monitoring and adjusting the trend in labor costs;
- Outsourcing payroll administration, conducting monthly reviews of personnel changes, and assisting with the annual audit;
- Developing and implementing the occupational health and safety policy, implementing the action plan resulting from the RI&E, and chairing the occupational health and safety committee;
- Together with, or on behalf of, the management, you serve as the point of contact for the Works Council and draft requests for approval and advice;
- You handle labor and employment law matters and keep track of relevant changes in the law, applying them to the Stedelijk’s operations;
- You will develop the annual training plan, oversee its implementation, and manage the organization-wide training budget;
- You are responsible for implementing the HR aspects of the inclusion and diversity policy;
- You chair the biweekly Social-Medical Consultation and implement the Gatekeeper Act;
- You will streamline the tasks and responsibilities within the team.
The HR Team
The HR Manager reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Management Team. The Stedelijk employs approximately 200 staff members, hosts around 30 to 40 interns annually, and also relies on volunteers, temporary workers, and independent contractors. You are an inspiring coach for your team of four HR colleagues: an HR Advisor, an HR Associate, and two Staffing Planners. You ensure that your team is able to support the desired organizational development in a forward-thinking and innovative manner.
Your Profile
As an HR Manager, you serve as a trusted advisor to the executive board and management. You are also a hands-on person who thrives on driving innovation and improvement with positive energy. In addition, you possess:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in HR, business administration, or labor law;
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a senior HRBP role or as an HR Manager;
- Management experience;
- The ability to quickly switch between all the topics that come up during the day without losing sight of the big picture;
- Excellent command of Dutch and English.
The Offer
- The Stedelijk offers a one-year employment contract with the possibility of renewal;
- The position is classified in pay grade 13, with a maximum salary of €6,321 for a full-time position of 36 hours per week (Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement).
