EDUKANSworks to improve education through three programs: primary education, youth and employment, and education in emergency situations. We operate in four focus countries—Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, and Uganda—and also carry out projects in other countries. Our work is carried out by international teams and is overseen by an International Management Team.
Would you like to use your expertise to improve education and training for children and young people in our focus countries? We are looking for an experienced Engagement & Fundraising Manager with strategic skills and a hands-on approach.
What will you be doing?
As Engagement & Fundraising Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the engagement and fundraising strategy in the Netherlands. You will ensure that EDUKANS is well-positioned both nationally and internationally. You will take an energetic and strategic approach to work with your team to increase brand awareness, grow fundraising revenue, and strengthen and foster partnerships. As a manager, you give employees trust and freedom and coach them to bring out the best in themselves.
You serve as an ambassador for the organization, as well as a member and sounding board for the International Management Team. Together with the other IMT members, you encourage and facilitate collaboration within cross-border teams.
We are looking for a manager who builds connections, sets clear guidelines, and fosters freedom and trust.
You will be part of the International Management Team and the Country Management Team and will help foster collaboration between different countries and teams.
Your main responsibilities:
1. Strategy and Policy
In 2024, the E&F team developed a multi-year strategy for 2025–2027 and a 2025 Annual Plan for marketing, communications, fundraising, and relationship management.
- Implementing a strategic framework for Engagement & Fundraising.
- Responsible for achieving the goals set out in the 2025 Annual Plan and the 2025–2027 Strategy
- Departmental Budget Management
- Contributing ideas on strategic issues within the (international) organization.
- Develop (in collaboration with the other members of the Management Team) the organization’s multi-year strategic policy. Submits proposals in the form of detailed plans aimed at improving the organization’s quality and performance and advancing its objectives.
- Translate the established strategic policy into objectives and concrete (policy) plans, including a budget for marketing and communications.
- Monitors and evaluates current policies, prepares various reports, and makes adjustments as needed.
2. Engagement and Fundraising
- Responsible for the strategic positioning and branding of EDUKANS.
- Identifying market trends and industry developments and translating them into opportunities for the organization.
- Contributing ideas, implementing, and evaluating innovative campaigns, potentially in collaboration with an external agency.
- Represent Edukans to partners, contacts, and ambassadors—in collaboration and consultation with the director
- Responsible for revenue and client relationships that are acquired and managed by team members
3. People management
- Leading your team in a people-oriented and results-oriented way.
- Coach employees based on trust and autonomy, and create an inspiring work environment.
- Occasional operational performance of team members' duties
Who are you?

- Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least 8 years of demonstrable experience in marketing, communications, fundraising, and account or partnership management in an international context
- You are a strong strategist who sees through developments
- You are a people manager who knows how to bring people and teams together through empathy and coaching.
- You are a networker who actively represents the organization.
- Thinks creatively and innovatively to manage new strategies and campaigns
- You have excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
- You are willing to travel to our country offices from time to time.
