The Gelders Archief is an enterprising and innovative information manager. We are one of the largest archival institutions in the Netherlands and manage digital and physical archives for the national government, the province of Gelderland, a water board, municipalities, and joint arrangements in the Arnhem region. Every day, hundreds of interested individuals view and use our unique materials online and in the reading room. The themes we will focus on in the coming years are: transparency of government information, people-centered service, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability.
We have about 50 employees, representing a wide range of disciplines. We are experts in our respective fields and passionate about what we do. The department for which we are seeking a new manager comprises about half of our staff. The employees in this department provide direct customer service online and digitally, digitize archival records, perform document restoration, and are responsible for supporting operational functions in the areas of facilities, accounting, administration, and legal affairs.

You focus on the big picture, trust in your team’s expertise, and create space for ownership. You have the skills to quickly grasp the situation, ask incisive questions, and make well-considered decisions. Furthermore, you don’t need to be an expert in archives or heritage, but you do have an interest in and a feel for these areas.
You are a member of the Management Team. Together, you set the organization’s policy and shape an inclusive and outward-looking organizational culture. As part of the Management Team, you foster connection and collaboration both within and outside the organization. Together, you establish frameworks for the organization in a changing environment.
You translate strategic developments into your department’s areas of focus and provide guidance on their implementation. You create an environment where your team members can do their best work and enjoy what they do. You serve as the link between strategy and operations and set realistic goals.
Government information management and archiving are at the center of political attention. Public administration must be understandable, open, transparent, and secure for citizens and businesses. Effective information management and archiving are essential in this regard, especially as the world becomes increasingly digital. To achieve this, speed, quality, and efficiency are crucial. As a manager, you play a key role by translating social and technological developments into solid, people-centered services.
We have outlined our ambitions in ourStrategic Plan 2025–2028. At the start of this new policy period, we are adapting our organizational structure to address these challenges and opportunities. We are reducing the number of departments from three to two. Together with your colleagues, you will help shape one of these two new departments.
The Gelders Archief offers you a challenging position at an organization that values your personal and professional development. Because we believe a healthy work-life balance is important, you will have the option to work in a hybrid model. The Gelders Archief operates under the Collective Labor Agreement for Cooperating Municipal Organizations (SGO). The position is classified at scale 12 (maximum €6,862 gross per month for full-time employment). In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget of 17.05%. You will also receive reimbursement for your travel expenses. For those who drive to work, we offer free parking. The position requires a minimum of 32 hours per week. We are initially offering a three-year contract. After one year, we will evaluate your performance together and discuss the possibility of converting the contract to a permanent position.
