The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Manager to focus on fundraising and outreach events and initiatives in the Netherlands. This full-time position will be based in our Amsterdam office and will report to the Netherlands Director in the Development and Outreach Department. We anticipate that the successful candidate will begin this position by November 2022.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are operating at reduced capacity. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely if local regulations require it. We recognize that this period, during the pandemic, is an exceptionally difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible throughout both the recruitment and onboarding processes for this position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the Netherlands Director and the Development team to identify, vet, cultivate, serve, solicit, and manage individual donors and prospects, including committee members, foundations, and corporations;
  2. Work with the Development Team to identify, evaluate, implement, and manage new funding sources;
  3. Manage supporters based in the Netherlands; foundations and individuals;
  4. Manage, coordinate, and assist in organizing small-scale and flagship fundraising, outreach, and donor engagement events in the Netherlands, including virtual events, researcher or program briefings, and other donor engagement events;
  5. Liaise with the leadership of the Netherlands Committee and the Committee: schedule meetings (in person or online), create agendas, prepare background materials, lead meetings, oversee events, and follow up on meetings;
  6. Assist the Netherlands Director in developing fundraising strategies;
  7. Assist with event production (in person or virtual) for individuals, foundations, and corporations;
  8. Manage communications with and create content for the Netherlands Committee and the broader Dutch donor community, including distributing event invitations, program updates, and other relevant outreach materials;
  9. Provide support services for the Amsterdam office, including tracking gifts and using HRW’s Salesforce database;
  10. Oversee the recruitment and training of interns and coordinate their work;
  11. Promote an inclusive and positive work environment by seeking out diverse perspectives, encouraging staff to participate in DE&I initiatives, and proactively addressing bias, discrimination, microaggressions, etc.; and
  12. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor's degree is required.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience, preferably in fundraising and/or event management, is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. An entrepreneurial spirit and the discipline to work independently, as well as the ability to function as part of a development team, are highly desirable.
  2. Experience coordinating in-person and virtual events, preferably large-scale events, is required.
  3. Creativity, initiative, follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are required.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English are required.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills are required to work collaboratively within HRW, our volunteer groups and committees, as well as with local and external partners.
  6. The ability to multitask effectively, including strong planning and organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure, is required.
  7. A demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues, along with the ability to fully understand and effectively represent the mission and programs of HRW, is essential.
  8. Strong technical skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce, social media platforms, and online conferencing tools (Zoom and Microsoft Teams), are highly desirable.
