More about this organization
A bustling market with white stalls and many visitors in a square surrounded by Dutch houses and office buildings.

We are looking for a professional who wants to help build a digital Amsterdam by staying at the forefront of innovation and demonstrating creativity. Someone who sees opportunities to make a positive impact by combining financial data with policy data. But above all, we are looking for a leader who can inspire and guide a growing and diverse team of 12 colleagues with up-to-date knowledge of FinTech, BI tools, and robotic process automation (RPA).

Do you contribute to the City of Amsterdam?
You know better than anyone that data is a key asset! Amsterdam is fully committed to data-driven work to make decision-making easier and faster. With the best reports, analyses, and predictive models, your team directly contributes to the quality of the products and services provided by the Financial Services Department. When that foundation is in place, the residents and businesses of Amsterdam benefit.

There’s a basic rule at the City of Amsterdam: everything you do can have an impact on the city and its residents. That’s what makes working as a Data Manager so exciting. You always handle data securely and ethically. You help achieve policy objectives. And in this rapidly changing world, change is the only constant—and you and your team know how to navigate it effectively.

Here's what you'll do on a typical workday:

  • Every day, you keep the team enthusiastic about new ways of working. Your focus is on the transition to Scrum (SAFe) and the new way of working in the cloud (Azure).
  • You regularly discuss the possibilities of data-driven work—whether asked to or not—with team leaders within your own department and beyond. Can you clearly explain the full potential of data?
  • You’ll be coordinating closely with the Amsterdam Management Information team. They are your data provider and have a wealth of financial, HR, and other data.
  • There is a high demand for integrating financial data with operational and policy data. You will collaborate with the IT Department to explore the technical possibilities.
  • Together with a temporary change manager, you will develop the roadmap, create a milestone schedule, and define the future data strategy.
  • You’ll also bring challenging projects to the team, ensuring they run smoothly and are delivered successfully. And in consultation with the management team and the Amsterdamse School internal training center, you’ll develop a training program for the team.

Close to the People of Amsterdam
Working for Amsterdam means working for over 850,000 Amsterdammers. It means ensuring that Amsterdam is—and remains—an attractive capital city. A place where it’s great to live, work, and go to school. With room for entrepreneurs and visitors. Working for Amsterdam means working alongside some 19,000 different colleagues. Colleagues who constantly challenge themselves and grow, working together with the people of Amsterdam to do what’s best for the city. Together, with pride, and above all, with a passion for the city.

The Data, Reporting, and Innovation team has made tremendous strides. Launched as a project in 2017, it has now proven itself to such an extent that it has been given a formal structure. Perhaps with you at the helm? The team includes data analysts, data scientists, and BI specialists. The diversity in knowledge levels, work experience, and life experience among team members makes your role as Manager of Data, Finance, and Procurement challenging. What you won’t find varying is the drive and enthusiasm: getting better at your work every day. And there’s a real focus on supporting one another. Every morning, there’s a well-received stand-up meeting that provides space for both professional and personal matters.

What you bring to the table
All our colleagues are different—in their roles, ages, backgrounds, personalities, dreams, and hobbies. That’s something we’re proud of in Amsterdam, because all those differences lead to better outcomes for the city. So whoever you are, you’re welcome in Amsterdam.

For the position of Data, Finance, and Procurement Manager, we would also like you to have the following:

  • Excellent communication skills. You can easily discuss technical matters and know how to explain them to your Amsterdam-based colleagues who don’t have a background in data;
  • extensive experience with data-driven projects, for example as a project manager, senior data scientist, information manager, data architect, or data team lead;
  • demonstrable experience leading a highly educated team;
  • experience with change management;
  • knowledge of BI tools such as SAP BO, PowerBI, Tableau, and Azure;
  • knowledge of financial work processes;
  • university-level work and thinking

Good for Amsterdam. Good for you.
As a Data, Finance, and Procurement Manager, you’ll be working 36 hours a week in Amsterdam, and you can count on:

  • A one-year employment contract with the possibility of a permanent contract if you are not currently employed by the City of Amsterdam.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4,965 and €6,616 (pay grade 13) based on a 36-hour workweek. The exact salary will be determined based on your education, knowledge, and experience.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training. With our in-house center of expertise for skills training, customized development programs, and on-the-job coaching, you can continue to challenge yourself.
  • an individual choice budget (ICB) equal to 17.05% of your salary, which you can use for things like additional pension contributions or extra days off.
  • Flexibility when it comes to your work hours and location. With the Amsterdam Digital Workplace, you can log in wherever and whenever you want.
