As Core Facilities Manager, you will ensure optimal collaboration, coordination, and synergy among the various core facilities at Amsterdam UMC. You will safeguard the quality, continuity, and innovation of the services provided to internal and external users.

You will work closely with the scientific managers of the various core facilities. You will be responsible for developing and implementing policies related to operations (such as finance, IT, and communications) and strategy. You will do this in alignment with the objectives of Amsterdam UMC and Division 9 Laboratories.

  • You serve as the link between the various stakeholders and contribute to the positioning and further professionalization of the core facilities, both within Amsterdam UMC and externally (for example, within UMC NL).
  • You will provide hierarchical leadership to the team that provides overarching support for the core facilities.
  • You are the chair and secretary of the management team (MT) for core facilities (5 CFs).

What are you bringing?

You have a college degree, preferably with a focus on business administration or management, and experience working in a complex environment. In addition:

  • You have strong analytical skills, are a good communicator and a decisive decision-maker, but you’re also approachable.
  • You are able to bring calm and structure to a dynamic environment and create opportunities for growth, innovation, and collaboration.
  • You are a team player and you are able to get stakeholders on board with changes.
  • You have a keen sense of the dynamics and interests within the organization and know how to handle them with tact.
  • You have an interest in research and are preferably familiar with core facilities.
  • You have a good command of the Dutch language.

What do we offer you?

  • A one-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position.
  • Salary range for Grade 12: €5,847 to €7,424 gross for full-time employment (depending on education and experience). You will also receive an 8.3% year-end bonus.Calculate your net salary here.
  • Vacation hours: 190.4 hours per year for full-time employees, with the option to accrue additional hours.
  • Pension accrual through the ABP, for which we pay 70% of the contribution.
  • For distances of 7 km or more (one way), 100% public transportation reimbursement; for personal transportation, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km one way.
  • Do you prefer to walk or bike? Take advantage of our generous bike allowance. You’ll receive €0.18 per kilometer.

Where will you be working?

Amsterdam UMC currently has five accredited core facilities, all within Division 9 Laboratories: Genomics (AMC and VUmc locations), Metabolomics (AMC location), Microscopy & Cytometry (both locations), and Proteomics (VUmc location). These core facilities form a key pillar of Amsterdam UMC’s research strategy and provide a state-of-the-art research infrastructure.

You will work closely with the scientific managers of the core facilities and report to the Director of Operations for Division 9. Functional oversight is provided by the Vice Dean of Research and the portfolio holder for core facilities from the Amsterdam Research Board (ARB).

You will lead the administrative department(s) that support all core facilities (across the board), including the data management/high-performance computing facility (ACDC).
