More about this organization
Modern office space with a wooden table, orange chairs, and large windows overlooking buildings. Books on the wall.

The Dutch Patient Federation represents more than 200 patient organizations. We advocate for all people who need healthcare. Thanks to our members, the reviews on ZorgkaartNederland, the information on DigitaleZorgGids, the experiences shared on Mijnkwaliteitvanleven.nl, and the input from more than 23,000 Healthcare Panel members, and the questions regarding the National Healthcare Number, the Dutch Patient Federation knows what patients think is going well and what could be improved. With that knowledge, the federation, together with its members, influences policy within the healthcare sector. And the Dutch Patient Federation gives a voice to everyone who needs care now or in the future: in the doctor’s office and in politics, with health insurance providers, and in the news.

Our organization in Utrecht employs approximately 75 people. The Patient Federation is looking for a strong, experienced, and inspiring

Communications Manager
(36 hours per week)

As Communications Manager, you will lead a team of independent professionals who handle press relations, public affairs/lobbying, communications consulting, association management, and content management/editorial work.

The Communications Department contributes to raising the profile and positioning of the patient movement and the Patient Federation. The team provides advice on strategic issues and supports various themes, projects, and programs. The topics they address are wide-ranging. These range from decision aids in healthcare to digital healthcare, primary care, making innovation accessible, pharmaceutical policy, and developing campaigns such as “Shared Decision-Making.” The Communications Department plays a central role in strategy development related to lobbying and association management.

As Communications Manager, you are part of the Management Team.

Profile Our new Communications Manager fits the following profile:

  • You are an experienced communications professional who is familiar with all aspects of the field: from communications consulting to active (social) media strategy.
  • You have experience working in a political and administrative environment, advocacy, and stakeholder management.
  • Developing a vision and strategy, setting priorities, and focusing efforts are a piece of cake for you. And at the same time, you’re also hands-on.
  • Experience in association management is a plus.
  • You are socially engaged and care deeply about healthcare and patients' well-being.
  • You are results-oriented and easily win others over thanks to your persuasiveness and expertise.
  • You have experience in a leadership role and are able to bring out the best in people .

Job Opening
We are offering a wonderful and challenging position in a dynamic organization with passionate people. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of healthcare and will be able to make a real difference. In the coming years, many developments are expected in the healthcare sector, in which the Dutch Patients’ Federation will play an important role—and you will play a meaningful role as well.

We also offer flexibility in working hours. So this isn’t a job where you necessarily work strictly “from 9 to 5.” We work partly at the office in Utrecht and partly from home.

This is a permanent position, and you will start with a one-year employment contract. If you perform well in the role and demonstrate that you are a good fit, your appointment will be converted to a permanent contract.

Depending on education and experience, the salary is a maximum of €6,628.00 gross per month for a 36-hour workweek (Collective Bargaining Agreement for Social Work, scale 13).

The Dutch Patient Federation offers good employment conditions, including an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) and a career budget. The IKB provides you with a budget that you can use as you see fit—either to have it paid out or, for example, to purchase additional leave hours. You will also receive a work-from-home allowance and, if applicable, reimbursement for the costs of your commute.

The Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement is followed. Based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement, you are a member of the Healthcare and Welfare Pension Fund.
