Are you a manager who thrives on change? Do you enjoy the challenge of driving the transition of the Management Support Office (BMO) forward? Do you have experience leading and guiding change processes? Are you able to stay calm under pressure and deliver results? Do you enjoy bringing out the best in your team every day?
As Manager of the Management Support Unit (BMO), you will serve as the driving and unifying force within the unit of the same name in the People & Organization Directorate of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV). For both ministries, we support and relieve the management of administrative burdens so that they can devote themselves fully to their primary tasks. You will directly supervise eight team managers, who in turn manage approximately 35 management support staff and project support staff. These management support staff are assigned to managers in the various directorates and directorates-general (DGs) of EZK and LNV. Functional management lies with the directorates and DGs; hierarchically, the management support staff report to BMO.
As a result of a reorganization, BMO is currently undergoing a major transition. As a manager, you will work with your management team to implement this transition and define the roles of managers and employees throughout the process. Building the department, further developing our services, and continuing to professionalize BMO are key priorities for the coming years. This requires you to think strategically about what will be needed in the future. What challenges lie ahead, and what do we need? What trends are we seeing, how do we align them with one another, how should our people be developed to meet these needs, and how do we ensure we align even more closely with our clients’ needs? The evolving role of management support staff, the tight labor market, and the smarter organization of the growing demand for management support staff are examples of the themes you will be addressing.
An investigation into the future of BMO is currently underway, which is examining, among other things, the scope and type of support required, including in relation to the national standard for support. The results are expected this summer. It is up to you, together with all stakeholders, to translate the conclusions of this report into practical solutions—while, of course, keeping the interests of the organization as a whole in mind.
At the same time, BMO must continue to operate as usual during the transition; the store will remain open during the renovation, and it is important that management support remains fully in place. There will also be significant changes for team managers and employees. You are there for the employees and ensure an inclusive work environment where employees feel valued and are encouraged to bring out the best in themselves and others. By fostering a positive and open atmosphere, you encourage learning and the personal and professional development of employees. In addition to being a coach, you also serve as a substantive sparring partner.
Together with the Director of People and Organization and two other managers, you will form a collaborative executive team. As a team, you will address cross-departmental challenges and take on executive-level projects. Key priorities include ensuring the new organizational structure runs smoothly and further developing the executive team. We all have our own responsibilities, yet we work together in a pleasant and collaborative manner. We are given plenty of space and freedom to approach our work in our own way.
You are a decisive and collaborative manager. You lead your team with a great deal of energy. You are committed to further improving our services, and you do so with a hands-on approach. You understand that collaboration is essential to achieving our goals. In this role, you regularly interact with directors and general managers; you have a keen sense of the interests at play and what they need. Together, you are able to arrive at workable solutions and innovations. At the same time, you are not afraid to take a stand and provide a counterbalance where necessary. You stand up for your people and demonstrate ownership.
You feel at home in an environment where innovation is key and possess a strong ability to drive change and get things done. You take the initiative, think in terms of solutions, and make well-considered decisions. In doing so, you keep both the short and long term in mind. You remain calm under pressure like no other, maintain a clear overview, and know how to connect the dots. The team works well with you in this regard, and you keep an eye on the continued development of BMO as a whole. You know how to motivate and inspire employees and bring them together. In addition, you know how to encourage the team in their development while maintaining a good balance between results and team spirit.
In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (ICB). The ICB consists of money (16.37% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the ICB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment benefits. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on tax-friendly purposes. The Dutch government is strongly committed to personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this. Secondary employment conditions include various study facilities, company fitness programs, full reimbursement of your public transportation costs for commuting, and partially paid parental leave.
