For more than twenty years, the Oorkaan Music Ensemble has specialized in creating and performing world-class theatrical concerts in the Netherlands and internationally. Top professional musicians help audiences of all ages discover the infinite world of music. Classical music from around the globe, spanning past and present, is presented in theatrical and surprising forms. Oorkaan receives multi-year funding from the Performing Arts Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
Oorkaan performs its theatrical concerts in theaters and concert halls throughout the Netherlands and abroad. In addition to approximately 80 family concerts each year, Oorkaan also presents about 50 school concerts for school-age children who visit the concert hall or theater with their class. Oorkaan also offers ancillary programming alongside its performances, such as workshops. Another key pillar of Oorkaan is talent development. We provide masterclasses and training to educate creators and musicians according to the Oorkaan Method. The Booking Manager focuses on the national and international sales of Oorkaan productions, as well as on offering ancillary programming and masterclasses. Oorkaan maintains many relationships with a wide variety of venues and organizations. Regular partners include Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Philharmonie Luxembourg, and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
We offer a pleasant work environment at the Kempenaer Studios in Amsterdam-West. You’ll become part of a small, dynamic team with an international reach. You’ll collaborate closely with the artistic director, the executive director, the marketing team, the tour production manager, and the education & participation coordinator. We offer you plenty of room for innovative projects and working methods, allowing you to put your authentic creativity to use. We offer you a one-year contract with the intention of renewal and a competitive salary based on the Collective Labor Agreement for Theater and Dance. You will receive a personal development budget and will be encouraged to use it.
As a Booking Manager, you serve as a link between Oorkaan and the programmers. You know how to translate the content of our productions and educational offerings—such as workshops—into a compelling narrative for our national and international partners. Experience in the performing arts (including youth theater) and in selling concerts or other performing arts productions is a plus. You have strong communication skills, easily connect with people in the field, and are a team player. You can work independently and with precision, but also enjoy getting out and meeting people. Keeping track of the big picture and planning are no problem for you. You have a relevant network and are eager to expand it. You have a strong financial background, are proficient in Excel, and can prepare budgets. Negotiations do not intimidate you. You think and work at a minimum college level. You are fluent in Dutch, speak and write excellent English, and knowledge of German is a plus.
