Do you enjoy leading efforts to optimize and digitize our internal business processes? And are you interested in helping to professionalize our organization? If so, we’re looking for you to join us as our new Operations Manager (36 hours per week).
What will you be doing here?
As a manager at Talis, you focus on results, provide direction, build connections, lead, delegate, coach, set guidelines, and engage with and support your employees. You serve as a role model and communicate both the “big picture” and the “day-to-day” details. You bring energy and inspiration to the organization. You are adept at balancing strategy and execution, as well as content and process. In addition, you actively shape the development of your employees.
The Operations Team (approximately 30 FTE) consists of the following units: IT, Control, Financial Administration, and Facilities. This brings together the three key roles in Talis’s information management within a single team. From this position, the team contributes to Talis’s vision, mission, and objectives. The team ensures adequate internal and external information provision and accountability, as well as business analyses and advice. You have knowledge of the work of the sub-teams, act as an ambassador for your professionals, and advocate for your team’s interests. Your strong personality, expertise, and persuasiveness will help elevate your department to the next level.
What do you have to offer?
You are someone with a clear vision and approach, using your excellent people skills to build connections with your colleagues, Management Team members, the board, network partners, and—last but not least—the professionals on your team. You know better than anyone that we live in a dynamic world, where societal developments often place the greatest pressure on the most disadvantaged (the target groups for whom and with whom Talis works). It is precisely that social commitment and your forward-looking vision that ensure you are the right person in the right place. Guided by this vision, you take on your role as a sparring partner, critical questioner, inspiring leader, and observer. You show courage, dare to ask the right questions, and prioritize when the organization’s mission and work come under pressure. You champion the public interest while keeping a close eye on business performance.
The team is looking for the following qualities in you: approachability, decisiveness, and the ability to take charge. You rely on your team’s expertise and professionalism and know how to provide effective guidance. You inspire and coach your employees and value a healthy work-life balance. In addition, team members have an open attitude and value an empathetic and lighthearted approach. You have knowledge of finance, IT, and internal control and can support, advise, and coach your employees where necessary. Through your extensive network, you foster sustainable partnerships and create opportunities. Your strong personality also has a soft side, which contributes to a close-knit team that feels valued.
In addition, you have/are:
- demonstrable academic ability and level of thinking, meaning that you are a certified public accountant or certified controller, have an MBA, or have completed a comparable degree program,
- experience with or an interest in IT projects,
- experience in policy and strategy development,
- has strong analytical skills and translates strategic issues into operational ones,
- You share Talis’s social mission,
- built up a broad network.
Who are we?
Talis is one of the largest housing associations in Gelderland. We manage approximately 15,500 rental units in Nijmegen and Wijchen. We provide suitable, affordable, and future-proof housing in well-functioning neighborhoods, combined with quality care. We are visible and present in our neighborhoods and close to our tenants. We value our tenants’ wishes. We work together to improve the quality of the living environment and the quality of life in the neighborhood and on the streets. That is why we engage in frequent dialogue with customers and other stakeholders, such as community organizations, to achieve this.
At Talis, we operate under a collegial Board of Directors structure, with the management team and other teams reporting to it. Talis consists of the primary business units—Leasing & Sales/Onboarding, Real Estate, and Quality of Life—and the general support units—Consulting & Support and Operations. Managers at Talis are fully accountable for the organization’s results and, as part of the Management Team (MT), make decisions on all matters within the framework of the current budget. Each manager is responsible for a specific area of expertise and a team. You are responsible for a wide range of disciplines: ICT, Control, Financial Administration, and Facilities. And, of course, for fostering the professional development of the team members.
Talis is a flat organization with an informal work atmosphere. Because we have many professionals, each responsible for their own area of expertise, we work closely together. We have a culture where colleagues feel comfortable speaking up and are eager to learn from one another. Continuous professional development is therefore considered a must. In addition to fun company outings, we also invest in joint training and courses. Our employees have the freedom to perform their duties independently of time and location. This is facilitated by our many offices and workspaces, and employees are given the opportunity to purchase a home office setup.
What do we offer?
We are offering a one-year employment contract for 36 hours per week in a dynamic environment, with the possibility of a permanent position upon satisfactory performance. You can count on an excellent salary (salary scale N of the Housing Services Collective Agreement; max. €7,985 based on full-time employment), good benefits, and pension accrual. Lifelong learning is encouraged. We operate on a hybrid model, which facilitates a good work-life balance.
