More about this organization
Two cheerful elderly women are sitting at a table, laughing, in a cozy room with a brick wall and a window.

The National Foundation for the Elderly (NOF) is dedicated to supporting older adults in the Netherlands. We are seeking an operations manager for the NOF.

“The Art of Growing Old Together and the Art of Being an Adult”

The National Foundation for the Elderly (NOF) is dedicated to helping older adults in the Netherlands prevent loneliness as much as possible. The NOF encourages older adults to consciously remain socially active. This helps them stay connected with others and feel that they are making a difference. In doing so, we inspire society to become an age-friendly community. The NOF develops projects, services, and activities that encourage older adults to remain active and vibrant. We do this based on several pillars: vitality, social activity, digital skills, and mobility. Our guiding principles are collaboration, working locally, and acting as a catalyst.

The organization

At the National Foundation for the Elderly (NOF), about 30 staff members and many volunteers work every day to build a society where every older person counts. We are a professional, diverse, and close-knit team. The NOF is an informal, dynamic organization with an office near Amersfoort Station. The NOF is led by its director, Kirsten Andres. Together with the operations manager, she forms the management team. The supervisory board oversees the organization and serves as both the employer and a sounding board for the executive director.

The position

The Operations Manager (hereinafter referred to as the manager) leads the staff in the areas of finance, HR, Procurement, and IT. The department has a total of approximately 5–10 full-time equivalents. The manager’s role is strategic in nature and plays a leading role in the organization’s internal development.

Together with the director, you will work on the NOF’s strategy and ensure its operational implementation and translation. In doing so, you will keep a close eye on the medium term and ensure that up-to-date and relevant management information and annual reports are available. You will support the supervisory board by serving as an advisor on the board’s audit committee and will conduct consultations with the auditor on behalf of NOF. You will develop modern and appropriate HR policies and ensure that we keep pace with the ongoing digitization of our work processes and services.

Key responsibilities associated with this position include:

  • Finance:

Financial planning, serving on the Board of Trustees’ audit committee, preparing analyses and reports, and developing plans and budgets to ensure the organization’s financial health

  • HR:

Change management, strategic workforce planning, hybrid work, and talent management, with the goal of translating the organization’s strategy into HR policies and procedures

  • ICT:

Translating information needs derived from work and business processes into information provision, with the aim of optimizing data ownership and data-driven work practices.

  • Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation:

Establishing and advising on the planning, monitoring, and evaluation system, and implementing it in policies and programs/projects, with the aim of ensuring compliance with quality standards and achieving the agreed-upon objectives.

  • Purchasing:

Contract management and procurement negotiations aimed at ensuring an efficient and effective procurement process.

Who are we looking for?

  • We are looking for a colleague with broad business management experience in a strategic financial leadership role. Your focus will not be primarily on financial control, but rather on aligning resources with our strategy. You will focus on the big picture, but also pay attention to detail when necessary;
  • In addition, you should ideally have experience with—and insights into—developments in other operational roles within your department, or be able to quickly familiarize yourself with them;
  • You have strong analytical skills and are able to adapt effectively to different levels;
  • You have experience with project management and with the administrative aspects of project management;
  • You are a team player and adopt a leadership style that gives people room to grow, while also being there for them when needed;
  • You are a team player and know how to advise, facilitate, and support the director—both when asked and on your own initiative—in your operational management role. There is plenty of room for you to take the initiative.

What do we offer?

In addition to a pleasant work environment and the opportunity to make a difference for a vulnerable group in our society, we offer a gross annual salary of up to 90K and attractive benefits.

The procedure

NOF is being assisted in this process by the executive search firm Colourful People. Colourful People will conduct the initial screening based on interviews with candidates. For more information about the position or the process, please contact Rick Verhoeven, a partner at Colourful People (06 2670 6757). You can express your interest by submitting a cover letter and resume (PDF) no later than April 19 via the Colourful People website. Rest assured that your information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and care. Interviews with NOF’s selection and advisory committee are scheduled for week 19.

The NOF believes it is important that everyone feels welcome, valued, and at home at the Ouderenfonds. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, religion, disability, cultural or ethnic background, gender, or sexual orientation.
