More about this organization
Five people are sitting around a table in a library, reviewing documents together during a meeting or work session.

Join our new management team and put your strategic insight, business acumen, and people skills to work to drive innovation and professionalization. Together, we’ll build a future-proof library!

What will you be doing?

As Operations Manager at the Deventer Library, you will have a unique set of responsibilities. You will be responsible for matters related to IT, facilities management, logistics, finance, and administration, and you will also lead the Marketing & Communications team. You will oversee organizational development, maximizing impact, structure, and cohesion. You are a member of the management team and actively contribute to the organization’s strategic direction and policy development.

You have experience translating social and digital trends into future-proof solutions. With a warm yet professional approach, you know how to inspire people, build connections, and deliver results. You are committed to creating a safe and future-proof work environment, both physically and digitally.

Your responsibilities:

  • Strategically managing and strengthening business operations, including IT, facilities management, logistics, finance, administration, planning, and marketing & communications.
  • Leading innovation and change initiatives in areas such as digital transformation, data-driven work, and the effective allocation of resources.
  • Managing and coaching approximately 20 employees, spread across several teams.
  • Collaborating with partners both within and outside the facility (or facilities), including the on-site food and beverage services.
  • Building an organizational culture centered on ownership, collaboration, and development.
  • Setting priorities, providing clear guidelines, and maintaining direction in a fast-paced environment.

What do you bring to the table?

  • HBO+ or university-level work and thinking skills, preferably with a degree in business administration, management, or organizational development.
  • Strategic insight, a creative flair, and analytical skills: you quickly grasp complex issues and translate them into direction and results.
  • Experience leading change processes and coaching self-managed teams.
  • Entrepreneurship, the ability to get things done, and decisiveness: you spot opportunities, aren’t afraid to make choices, and inspire people to take action.
  • A natural networker with a keen sense of the political and administrative landscape. You have a clear understanding of the various interests at play, move seamlessly between different levels, and know when to connect, coordinate, or take the lead.
  • An interest in the library or cultural sector, or a desire to actively contribute to it. No direct experience in these sectors? No problem—we value a fresh perspective.
  • You take the initiative, work on the basis of trust, and know how to give people room to grow within clear guidelines.

What do we offer?

  • Variety, innovation, and a rewarding work environment with plenty of opportunities for personal growth.
  • Work for a casual organization with flexible hours that offers the option of hybrid work.
  • A position for 32 hours per week.
  • A salary ranging from a minimum of €5,663 gross to a maximum of €6,838 gross per month for a 36-hour workweek, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Public Libraries, at pay grade 12. A 3.75% raise under the Collective Bargaining Agreement will take effect on July 1, 2025. Your starting pay will depend on your experience.
  • An enthusiastic and active employee association.
  • Attractive benefits and a generous pension plan through the Public Libraries Pension Fund.
  • An initial one-year contract.

Where will you be working?

The Deventer Library is open to everyone—whether you live in the city or in one of the surrounding villages, and whether you’re a member or not. You’re welcome at all our locations to enjoy stories, find information, and get inspired. Whether you’re alone or with others, you can study, relax, meet up, or organize your own events there.

We are committed to a tolerant society and embrace diversity. Everyone should feel welcome—regardless of background, faith, or sexual orientation. An inclusive organization and diverse teams are a given for us.

More than just a library…

Thanks to the integration of the Athenaeum Library and the merger with Kunstcircuit, we have grown into a comprehensive cultural and heritage institution. We combine our strengths in the areas of language, information, cultural education, community engagement, and heritage. This allows us to offer something of value to everyone in the municipality of Deventer.

Interested?

Are you the strategic and people-oriented leader we’re looking for? If so, we’d love to hear from you! Tell us who you are, what you stand for, and why you’re the right person to take the Deventer Library to the next level.

You can apply through the application button until May 25. The first interviews will take place on Thursday, June 5. A case study and/or assessment is part of the process.
