As a member of the management team for the Waste and Raw Materials Department of the City of Amsterdam, you will play a key role in helping to ensure a clean and livable city for residents, businesses, and visitors. You will be responsible for maintaining departmental cohesion and ensuring that policies are translated into streamlined, integrated processes. The position
As Production Planning Manager, you will be responsible for driving the organization’s continued development and strengthening the core services provided by the Waste and Raw Materials Division across the board.
In addition to establishing overarching frameworks, optimizing service delivery (both internal and external) and strengthening collaboration with other departments also require significant attention. This will be the manager’s primary focus in the coming years.
It is your responsibility to provide all necessary information and to ensure that the supporting processes required for the excellent execution of daily operations are properly established, both in terms of personnel and procedures. You will directly supervise three team leaders in the Planning Department and indirectly supervise more than 50 employees in the department. The Planning Department consists of the following three teams: Operational Support Team, Deployment Team, and Planning and Route Management Team.
You are a member of the Management Team of the Waste and Raw Materials Division. In this role, you actively contribute to the development of the division’s vision and policies, as well as to the implementation and execution of those policies. Overall, you ensure sound and meticulous operational management and proper budget management, and you report on the results to the Director of Waste and Raw Materials.
Here's what you do on an average day
- In general terms, overseeing the ongoing development and transformation efforts for the planning department.
- Formulating the strategic direction of the business unit in an operational plan, based on the strategic frameworks established by senior management.
- Ensuring effective management and securing the necessary resources: money, time, and people.
- Preparing periodic accountability reports on progress, resource allocation, and results.
- Contribute to active, constructive, and effective collaboration with key partners in the city, both within the Area-Based Work and Urban Management cluster and with the Services and Information cluster (including DataLab and Taxation).
- Building a professional network outside of Amsterdam.

The Waste & Raw Materials Department is working toward a clean city free of litter. Collecting waste and ensuring it is processed properly are our core tasks. For the position of Production Planning Manager, you must have:
- An academic, professional, and intellectual level.
- At least 5 years of proven experience at the senior management level in activities that fall within the scope of a planning and control department.
- A strong and unifying leader with a focus on the long-term employability of employees, dedicated to continuous learning, improvement, and development through a coaching leadership style.
- At least 5 years of experience in business operations/finance, integrated management, and change management.
You should have the following skills:
- Analytical skills: Breaks down complex issues and distills them into key details and clearly interrelated aspects, and is able to identify new connections, even when information is incomplete.

What we offer you
As a Planning and Scheduling Manager, you will join our team for 36 hours per week and can expect the following terms of employment:
- A gross monthly salary of up to €7,659 (pay grade 14) based on a 36-hour workweek. The exact salary will be determined based on your education, knowledge, and experience.
- A 12-month employment contract, with the possibility of a permanent contract thereafter if you do not currently have an employment contract with the City of Amsterdam, or if you have only a temporary contract.
- If you already have a permanent employment contract with the City of Amsterdam, you will retain it and be transferred.
- For highly experienced candidates with more than 7 years of experience in a similar position, a labor market subsidy may be available.

- An individual flexible budget (IKB) equal to 17.05% of your salary, which you can use for things like additional pension contributions or extra days off.

- A travel allowance of €0.10 per kilometer, up to a 45-kilometer one-way commute, for the number of days you work in the office, and/or a work-from-home allowance of €2 net per workday that you work from home.
- A monthly contribution toward health insurance.
- Hybrid work: In this role, you can work partly from home and partly in the office. We provide the necessary equipment to help you set up a safe and healthy workspace at home.
- A cell phone and a work laptop.
