Quickly discover the complex world of academic healthcare. And as an academic talent, get the chance to use your fresh perspective to focus on processes that will make our hospital even better!

The healthcare landscape is changing rapidly, and there’s a lot going on at Amsterdam UMC. Not only in healthcare, education, and research, but also in other departments, such as IT, procurement, finance, HR, and our lateral entry team. Our management trainee program will introduce you to a whole new world.

As a management trainee, you will carry out three interesting assignments in different departments within the hospital and receive training, peer review, and intensive mentoring throughout the trainee program. A customized program with complex healthcare-related assignments that will help you get to know the organization, build a strong network, and contribute to improvements across our entire organization. You’ll learn a lot from us, and we’re eager to learn from you.

In addition to carrying out various assignments, you’ll spend about 10% of your time on personal development. Together with a diverse group of fellow trainees and participants in our talent program, you’ll work on soft skills—such as personal leadership, advising, and communication—as well as hard skills—such as project management and time management—both internally and at an external training firm.

No two trainee programs are alike. The assignments vary, and everyone goes through their own learning and development process. However, one thing is certain: you will participate in a comprehensive development and training program.Hereyou can read more about that, as well as the application and selection processes.

Once you’ve completed the trainee program, you’ll have a good understanding of what’s going on at Amsterdam UMC. That’s when we’d like to sit down with you to discuss what your next step might be.

What are you bringing?

  • A master's degree in healthcare;
  • No more than two years of work experience;
  • The ambition to develop into a project manager, consultant, or program coordinator;
  • Ability to take initiative. We provide you with excellent guidance, but we’ll also throw you in at the deep end. You’re comfortable with the unknown and quickly adapt to new situations;
  • The ability to deliver tangible results quickly for every project;
  • A curious, sharp, and analytical mind, strong communication skills, and the ability to reflect on one’s own work.

Finally, if you have strong problem-solving skills and are motivated to help innovate our services, we look forward to receiving your application!

What do we offer you?

  • A starting salary of €2,905 (gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek). This increases every six months, reaching a salary of €3,336 in the final six months. This applies to all trainees.
  • A two-year temporary appointment for the duration of the trainee program.
  • Pension accrual through the ABP, for which we pay 70% of the contribution.
  • A (partial) reimbursement of your public transportation costs. Would you rather commute by bike? If so, we have a great bike program.
  • Free and unlimited access to GoodHabitz's online training courses.
  • A large network of new colleagues and a supportive environment where you can speak your mind, share experiences, and offer each other constructive feedback.
  • An active staff association and the Jong Amsterdam UMC association, both of which organize fun (sports-related) activities and events.

Where will you be working?

Typically, as a trainee, you’ll work within a single department or division, and your team and department will change every eight months. Sometimes you’ll be part of a project team, and other times you’ll work more independently. Whatever you do, you’ll work closely with your mentor and regularly interact with your fellow trainees both at work and outside of work.
