Leiden University - Faculty of Social Sciences

With us, you'll get to know the world

The Department of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CAOS) is currently seeking a

Management Assistant (0.6 FTE)

Job Opening Number 22-831 13285

Our management assistant has moved on to a new opportunity, so we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced colleague to join our team at the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CAOS). The CAOS programs are home to a vibrant student community representing no fewer than 25 different nationalities. The CAOS staff team is also international and highly diverse, which makes for a very pleasant atmosphere both in the workplace and at the lunch table.

What are you going to do?

You will be the first point of contact for our staff, students, and visitors. You will keep them informed about what is happening within our institute. In addition, you will serve as our administrative support and organize various events such as meetings, conferences, and seminars. You will work closely with your fellow management assistant. Other duties:

  • General secretarial duties: mail/email, phone, calendar management, and scheduling.
  • Scheduling and taking minutes for meetings within the institute (including those of the Board, the Program Committee, and the Institute Council);
  • You will provide support to the Netherlands School of Anthropology, including by scheduling and taking minutes for meetings and helping to organize masterclasses;
  • You will provide support to the institute’s Director of Research, including tracking Ph.D. programs and scheduling meetings;
  • Maintaining and entering publications into the Lucris Converis online registration system;
  • Providing assistance with the organization of (online) conferences, seminars, meetings, and other events.

Who are you?

  • You have at least a high school diploma, supplemented by training in administration (or another relevant field);
  • You have several years of experience as an executive assistant (preferably in a dynamic work environment);
  • You’re a whiz at organizing (online) meetings, seminars, and conferences;
  • You’re an expert in MS Office, and you may also have experience with content management systems;
  • We work in an international environment, so speaking and writing Dutch and English is no problem at all for you;

So, is that you?

  • An enthusiastic organizer who loves to roll up their sleeves;
  • A reliable colleague who will take the pressure off both management and staff at our institute;
  • Accustomed to working independently while actively seeking collaboration with others;
  • Someone who always sees room for improvement and is eager to share this with your colleagues;
  • Core values that align with your own: integrity, accuracy, proactivity, helpfulness, and a solution-oriented mindset.

We’d love to hear from you!
