Het Nationale Theater is the largest touring theater company in the Netherlands. We take our productions to more than 40 cities across the country. With our two companies (Het Nationale Theater and HNTjong), we are the only national theater organization that produces performances for all ages.
We call three theaters in The Hague home: the Koninklijke Schouwburg, Theater aan het Spui, and Zaal 3. These theaters are nestled among palaces, government ministries, and working-class neighborhoods. In our venues, we commemorate our shared past and celebrate the festivities that bring us together. The National Theater prioritizes accessibility. HNTonbeperkt does everything in its power to ensure that a disability, whether visible or invisible, is not a barrier to coming to the theater. We present our own productions, but we also provide a stage for companies and creators from across the country: from cabaret to drama, from dance to theater lectures.
The National Theater is a foundation that operates under a Supervisory Board model. The National Theater’s strategic direction is set and its day-to-day management is handled by a four-member executive team, two of whom also serve on the board of directors. The National Theater’s Supervisory Board oversees the policies of the board of directors and the executive team, as well as the organization’s general operations and finances. Furthermore, the Supervisory Board serves as a sounding board and advisor—a relationship based on mutual trust and respect. The Supervisory Board, which currently consists of six members, is balanced in its composition and is characterized by a mix of members with diverse social backgrounds, areas of expertise, and disciplines. The Supervisory Board sets its agenda and priorities in consultation with the Board of Directors and engages in critical (self-)evaluation.
The Supervisory Board is seeking a new member from the cultural sector. A profile is provided below.
The Supervisory Board meets at least four times a year, and as often as necessary due to specific circumstances. Members of the Supervisory Board are appointed for a term of three years and may be reappointed for a maximum of two terms.
The Supervisory Board does not receive any compensation for its work.
The National Theater operates in accordance with the Code of Cultural Governance, the Fair Practice Code, and the Code of Cultural Diversity.
