The Mondriaan Fund is one of the six national cultural funds and, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, supports the development of artists, curators, and critics, as well as the realization of projects and activities by museums and other heritage institutions, arts venues, archives, galleries, and commissioning bodies in the Netherlands and abroad. We also organize events such as the Johannes Vermeer Prize, the Prospects exhibition during Art Rotterdam, and the Dutch entry for the Venice Biennale. We do this with a staff of approximately 70 people.
We are currently seeking a new member for our Board of Trustees. The Mondriaan Fund strives for a balanced composition of its governing body and takes the diversity of the board into account when selecting all new members. We are therefore looking for someone with extensive experience in the field of cultural heritage, in both collections and exhibitions.
In addition to expertise, independence is a crucial quality for a well-functioning Supervisory Board. A former member of the Executive Board or other policy-making official of the Mondriaan Fund may not serve on the Supervisory Board.
The Mondriaan Fund operates under a governance model consisting of an Executive Board and a Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board is statutorily tasked with overseeing the Executive Board’s policies and the general course of business. The Supervisory Board advises and supports the Executive Board.
The Supervisory Board meets with the Executive Board an average of four times a year and once without the Executive Board. The members also maintain frequent contact with one another and with the fund’s Executive Board.
The Supervisory Board consists of at least three and no more than seven members. Together, they represent a wealth of knowledge regarding society; the (international) field of visual arts and cultural heritage; cultural entrepreneurship; finance; legal affairs; and corporate governance. The powers, duties, working methods, and composition of the Supervisory Board are described on the Mondriaan Fund’s website.
