The Nieuwe Kerk is a multidisciplinary, inclusive building; it is our national royal church, offering accessible art and culture to a wide audience and focused on facilitating encounters. Countries, notable figures, and photography take turns as the focus of its exhibition programming. Great Dutch writers are honored in the literary programming. The largest organ in the Netherlands is actively played. It is the venue for all royal events, national commemorations, and celebrations. With 250,000 visitors per year, De Nieuwe Kerk is one of the most visited exhibition venues in the Netherlands.
The board of the National Foundation De Nieuwe Kerk is seeking a
Member of the Supervisory Board
With a view to the Foundation’s duties and those of its affiliated foundations, the Supervisory Board oversees, among other things, the achievement of the Foundation’s statutory and other objectives, the strategy and risks associated with the Foundation’s activities, risk management, and the reporting thereof, compliance with laws and regulations, and the performance of duties and the exercise of powers by the Executive Director.
As set forth in Article 14 of the Foundation’s Articles of Incorporation, the Supervisory Board is responsible, among other things, for approving the board and management regulations, approving the budget, the financial statements, and the management report; appointing, suspending, dismissing, and determining the compensation of the managing director; ensuring the managing director’s compliance with the Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Cultural Diversity Code; appointing an auditor as referred to in Article 393, paragraph 1, of Book 2 of the Civil Code, who reports to the board, and annually rendering an account of the performance of duties and the exercise of powers in the Foundation’s management report.
The Supervisory Board consists of at least five members appointed by the Supervisory Board. The composition, duties, and powers of the Supervisory Board are such that the board can exercise sound and independent oversight. It is desirable that various fields of social activity be represented on the Supervisory Board. The board strives for a balanced representation in terms of cultural background, age, and gender.
The members of the Supervisory Board have no direct interests in the Foundation. They serve in a personal capacity and perform their duties independently and without interference. Membership on the Supervisory Board is unpaid.
Given the current composition and rotation schedule of the Supervisory Board, the board is seeking a candidate who, through their education or extensive practical experience, possesses expertise in general management, entrepreneurship, and governance, and who has a particular interest in culture. Preferably, the candidate should have experience as a managing director at a large company or institution, or in public (national) administration.
The ideal candidate has a connection to, or a thorough knowledge of, the Protestant Church of Amsterdam, or otherwise possesses a general religious background. The appointment will be made upon the recommendation of, or with the approval of, the Protestant Church of Amsterdam.
