More about this organization
Two dancers in silver outfits perform a modern dance routine on a dark stage with a rain effect.

Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) ranks among the very best contemporary dance companies in the world. With two companies and a total of 48 dancers, NDT travels all over the world. Behind the scenes, a passionate team of approximately 70 professionals works daily to create unforgettable performances. From lighting and sound design, costumes, production and technical support, marketing to HR and finance: everything revolves around quality—and people.

We are seeking a member for our Supervisory Board who will also serve as chair of the audit committee.

Supervisory Board

The members are appointed by the Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board is composed in such a way that its members can operate independently and critically in relation to one another and to the Executive Board. Members of the Supervisory Board are expected to be capable, including in terms of available time, of monitoring and promoting the management’s policies and the general course of business in a timely and adequate manner, and of advising the management in the preparation and implementation of those policies.

The term of office is four years, after which members may be re-elected for a maximum of one additional term. The Supervisory Board meets at least four times a year and strives to attend premieres and special events as often as possible. Members of the Board serve in an unpaid capacity (as of now).

The Board places great value on diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity—regardless of origin, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical disability—and strives for a diverse membership. We welcome representation of diverse perspectives from various sectors, life experiences, and viewpoints. The Supervisory Board endorses the Governance Code for Culture, the Fair Practice Code, and the Diversity and Inclusion Code. These Codes serve as guidelines for the Supervisory Board’s actions. The Board is committed to ensuring that the following areas of expertise (in no particular order) are well represented:

  • Administrative and political experience at the national level;
  • Artistic expertise and knowledge of the (international) dance sector;
  • Financial and business management expertise;
  • Legal expertise;
  • Understanding of social relationships;
  • Diversity and inclusion;
  • Intercultural communication.

General profile requirements

In addition to having an interest and enthusiasm for the role, a prospective member of the Supervisory Board must:

  • Alignment with NDT’s vision and mission;
  • Has the ability to think independently and is capable of asking tough questions;
  • A specific area of expertise that contributes to the overall work of the Board of Trustees: in this case, financial expertise.
  • Plays an active role in community life and demonstrates social awareness and responsibility;
  • Has an international outlook;
  • A relevant network in the field of NDT and a willingness to utilize it;
  • An interest in issues related to diversity and inclusion, and sufficient experience to serve as a sounding board for the Board of Trustees and the executive management.
  • An understanding of the interaction with local government and the political and administrative context in which NDT operates;
  • An approachable person who is able to build strong relationships with the other members of the Supervisory Board, the Executive Board, and, if applicable, the Works Council.

Specific profile requirements for new members

Due to the expiration of one of the members’ terms, we are seeking someone with expertise in business operations and financial management. The role of chair of the audit committee requires an additional time commitment beyond regular meetings, including consultations with the business director, controller, and accountant. The Board strives for diversity, equality, and inclusion and expressly invites candidates who can make an active contribution based on innovative insights. This also applies to individuals under the age of 40 with less board experience. Of course, attention is given to the training of board members, and (additional) training is available.
