Are you an experienced supervisor or executive with strong financial expertise and an affinity for the social sector? Can you analyze financial information and translate it into management decisions without losing sight of the organization’s social mission? And do you want to contribute to the further development of an organization that works every day on issues related to livelihood security, participation, youth, well-being, and quality of life?
We are seeking a member of the supervisory board for B&A to oversee the Finance portfolio, who will also serve as chair of the audit committee, which is yet to be established. This is a meaningful role for someone who combines financial acumen with managerial sensitivity, social commitment, and a practical approach to oversight.
B&A is a social enterprise that has been working for more than forty years to create a society in which everyone can participate. The organization supports municipalities and social organizations in addressing complex issues in the social sector. It does so by providing advice and implementing solutions, particularly in the areas of livelihood security, participation, youth, and well-being.
The context in which B&A operates is constantly changing. Municipalities are facing significant social challenges, while budgets are under pressure and demands for accountability and operational management are increasing. Labor market shortages and rising costs are also affecting the financial flexibility and continuity of organizations in the social sector.
For B&A, financial continuity, risk management, and strategic positioning will be key priorities in the coming years. In this context, new tenders and the distribution of contracts across various municipalities require close monitoring of risks and future-proofing.
There are also exciting opportunities. B&A aims to expand its operations in and around urban areas and continue to innovate in the way its services are organized. Digitalization—and possibly the use of AI as well—can help ensure the organization’s future viability, provided these developments are carefully aligned with quality and social value.
We are looking for a board member who combines financial expertise with management experience. You have an affinity for nonprofit organizations. You are able to analyze and assess financial information and translate it into management and strategic decisions. In doing so, you look not only at the numbers, internal controls, and risks, but also at the social impact of B&A and the choices needed to ensure the organization’s long-term viability.
You have extensive experience at the strategic financial level. This experience may have been gained as a board member, chief operating officer, chief financial officer, member of an executive or board of directors, accountant, experienced regulator, or as a supervisory board member with a financial portfolio. Experience with audit committees is preferred. You are willing to help shape this committee carefully and to serve as its chair.
You understand the dynamics of organizations that work for municipalities, public clients, and social partners. Experience with contract financing, grants, competitive bidding, or municipal contracting is a definite plus. An affinity for the social sector and B&A’s social mission is important.
You have strong analytical skills and are independent. You ask incisive questions and ensure a clear distinction between oversight and governance. You are also constructive and focused on collaboration. You bring financial acumen to the table in a way that fosters trust and facilitates joint decision-making within the board.
You are energetic and approachable. You can quickly get up to speed on council business, take responsibility for your portfolio, and work well with others. You bring a fresh perspective. In addition, you are curious, keep a close eye on developments, and are willing to challenge existing ways of thinking.
The Supervisory Board oversees the Executive Board and the general course of business at B&A. In addition, the Board serves as the Executive Board’s employer, advisor, and strategic sparring partner. The Board monitors B&A’s social mission, the organization’s financial health, and the quality of its services.
The board consists of dedicated members with complementary backgrounds. Collaboration within the board is open and professional, with room for exchange, reflection, and questioning one another’s perspectives. The new member is asked to contribute to this through financial expertise and a constructive, independent perspective.
The board meets six times a year, usually on Friday mornings in The Hague. It is therefore important to be available on Fridays. In addition to the regular meetings, chairing the audit committee—which is to be established—requires additional preparation, consultation with the auditor, and coordination with management and fellow board members.
B&A is committed to having a supervisory board that brings together diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. Diversity in terms of gender, cultural background, age, professional experience, and professional networks is strongly valued. While financial expertise is the primary requirement for this position, the board is also seeking someone who can contribute to social awareness and a broad perspective on oversight.
B&A offers a meaningful supervisory role within a social enterprise that addresses current issues in the social sector. You will have the opportunity to use your financial and administrative expertise to contribute to the continuity, professionalization, and further development of an organization that makes a social impact.
The average time commitment is a few days per month. The compensation is commensurate with the nature and responsibilities of the position.
B&A is being represented by Colourful People in these proceedings.
