Discriminatie.nl Amsterdam Region operates as an independent foundation and regional anti-discrimination agency (ADV) dedicated to addressing and preventing discrimination. We are subsidized and, as such, carry out our statutory duties under the Municipal Anti-Discrimination Bodies Act for the municipalities of Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Amsterdam, Diemen, Ouder-Amstel, Uithoorn, and the urban areas of Driemond and Weesp. We do this through complaint handling, providing information and advice, conducting research, and implementing prevention and education initiatives. We also maintain records to highlight the nature and scope of discrimination and, for example, provide information to (lower-level) government bodies to aid in policy-making, and we collaborate with partners.
Our chairperson recently stepped down after accepting the position of alderman in the municipality of Hoorn. Therefore, we are looking for a new chairperson.
In addition, our current treasurer’s second term ends this summer. Our current treasurer will still be available to help her successor get started.
At our office in downtown Amsterdam, a small team works under the direction of the director. The unpaid board oversees this team remotely. The board operates on a collegial basis, consists of at least five members, and adheres to the Social Work Governance Code.
Main responsibilities of the board:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and decisive chairperson with a broad network in the region, who commands respect both within and outside the organization, and who keeps us focused on our strategy and mission. You will provide high-level guidance on policy and strategic issues. Together with the director and the secretary, the chairperson prepares board meetings and bears ultimate responsibility for leading and managing the foundation, and has experience in doing so. The chairperson consults regularly with the director regarding the overall operations of the reporting center. In addition, the chairperson maintains regular contact with our grant providers and other partners. Finally, the chair also represents our organization in the public debate.
As treasurer, you share responsibility for the financial administration. You support the executive board with grant applications, budget preparation, administrative tasks, and reporting. Integrity, responsibility, and independence are essential for this role.
The number of scheduled board meetings is typically six per year, not including any specific thematic meetings or the meeting with the employee representatives (once a year). Both the chair and the treasurer will also be required to perform support tasks between meetings or attend external meetings. Board members are generally appointed for a term of 3 years; they may be reappointed no more than once for another 3-year term. The position is unpaid.
A legislative amendment is currently under consideration, as a result of which our reporting center will eventually be integrated into a new national organization.
You can apply for one of these positions by sending a cover letter and resume by Monday, August 3, 2026, to Yvonne Calf (Office Manager), email: y.calf@discriminatie.nl
