Cultuur+Ondernemen (www.cultuur-ondernemen.nl) is the leading knowledge platform for entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative sectors and a funding source for cultural entrepreneurs. We are here to support cultural organizations and independent artists and creatives who want to start their own businesses, so that they can thrive and society can reap the full benefits of what culture has to offer.

To that end, we collaborate with governments and foundations, among others, to maximize the impact of their cultural policies and investments. We advocate for an inclusive arts and culture sector and are convinced that diversity and inclusion make us stronger. As a knowledge platform, we focus on three areas of expertise: governance, business development, and financing. In addition, we provide loans to cultural entrepreneurs and serve as the custodian and guardian of the Governance Code for Culture. Cultuur+Ondernemen is funded through the Basic Cultural Infrastructure (BIS) program of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science (OCW) and also works on behalf of government agencies, foundations, and other partners. As such, the organization operates at the intersection of culture, entrepreneurship, financing, and social impact.

Key challenges

Cultuur+Ondernemen is keeping pace with the world and working on a refined vision and positioning for the coming years. In the coming period, the following priorities, among others, will take center stage:

• to position Cultuur+Ondernemen more clearly within the field of financiers, funds, and knowledge partners;
• further developing new and hybrid forms of financing;
• maintaining a balance between social impact, public mission, and entrepreneurship;
• continue to make progress in the areas of governance, oversight, and strategic decision-making.

The position

We are looking for a member of the Supervisory Board with a strong financial background. As a member of the Supervisory Board, you will contribute to the financial sustainability, strategic development, and social impact of Cultuur+Ondernemen. You will serve on the finance committee and, in that role, act as a key point of contact for the executive director, controller, and external auditor. We are looking for someone who can translate financial trends in the field into strategic decisions and who understands how entrepreneurship, public value, and cultural impact can reinforce one another.

Profile

We are looking for a candidate who fits the following profile:

• has proven expertise in the areas of finance, audit, control, and risk management;
• has experience with financial management within a public organization;
• has knowledge of external reporting, governance, and compliance;
• is comfortable working at the administrative and supervisory levels;
• is critical, independent, and analytical;
• has an affinity for art, culture, creativity, and social development;
• has a broad perspective on public and private financing.

The members of the supervisory board of Cultuur+Ondernemen are also members of the supervisory board of and vice versa.

Roles of the Supervisory Board

Oversight Officer – ensures the continuity, effectiveness, and integrity of the organization.

Advisor – supports and provides feedback to the managing director on strategic issues.

Employer – acts as the employer of the managing director and contributes to sound management and a healthy governance culture.

Practical

• The Supervisory Board meets approximately five times a year.
• In addition, the finance committee holds approximately five meetings.
• The appointment is preferably scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026
• The position comes with an annual vacancy allowance of €2,000.
• Cultuur+Ondernemen operates in accordance with the Cultural Governance Code and the Fair Practice Code and endorses the Diversity & Inclusion Code.
