What will you be doing?
In its audits, the Court of Auditors asks: "Is the municipal government achieving the goals it has set, and is the money being spent wisely?"
The Court of Audit is developing a research program to assess whether Arnhem operates efficiently and effectively. We conduct research on current social issues relevant to Arnhem.
We then oversee the implementation of those studies and are responsible for reporting to the council. We do this as a team. This ensures that the city council and residents have a clear understanding of the policy and what is actually being achieved through the plans.
Our mission:
The Arnhem Court of Audit aims to make an impact through its investigations and their findings. In doing so, the Court of Audit believes it is important to bring complex issues to life so that the Arnhem Court of Audit remains close to residents and the city council. Examples include the investigation into subversion in Arnhem, the mystery guest study on the quality of customer interactions at the City of Arnhem, and the investigation into the City of Arnhem’s youth policy.
Who are we?
The Arnhem Audit Office consists of a chairperson and two members, all of whom are independent of the municipality. We operate as a team and are jointly responsible for the audit program and the quality of the audits we conduct.
The Audit Office is supported by two professional investigators. The Arnhem Audit Office outsources (parts of) its investigations and conducts investigations on its own. The Audit Office meets weekly (during the day). The Arnhem City Council’s Political Evening is held on Wednesday evenings.
As a member of the independent Audit Committee of Arnhem, you will be appointed by the city council. The appointment is made upon the recommendation of the audit committee. The term of office is six years.

Who are we looking for?

Finally, we require independence from Arnhem’s political sphere and municipal administration. This means that candidates interested in becoming members of the Court of Audit must not have held any administrative or executive position with or for the municipality of Arnhem in the past three years. Candidates must not hold any position that is incompatible with membership in the Court of Audit (see the list of criteria in Article 81f of the Municipalities Act).
Where will you be working?
The city council is committed to ensuring the city’s quality of life: Are there enough public services? Is the city clean and safe? Is there enough new construction? The city council sets the broad direction for what happens in the city, and the mayor and aldermen implement those policies. The city council oversees whether they are doing so properly.
We do this for the beautiful city of Arnhem, which, with over 163,000 residents, is the 12th largest city in the country. There are many innovative companies in the fields of energy, fashion, design, and culture. Arnhem is the capital of the province of Gelderland. It is home to a number of national and international attractions and has a rich history that remains relevant to this day. Arnhem is a municipality where urban dynamism, a natural living environment, and economic strength reinforce one another.
