Help shape the future of public broadcasting—as a member of the NTR Supervisory Board with a background in (online) media and journalism.
The NTR is a public broadcaster with a clear mission and an independent status. As a non-member-based broadcaster, the NTR plays a unique role within the public broadcasting system: unbound, independent, and with a clear legal mandate. Its programming focuses on information, education, culture, youth, and diversity—with the guiding principle: by and for everyone. The NTR produces programs that are substantively strong and socially relevant. From Het Klokhuis to Nieuwsuur, from Dreamschool to Podium Klassiek —the NTR aims to inspire, inform, and contribute to a well-informed and inclusive society. The NTR’s strength lies in the combination of journalistic quality, educational impact, and cultural depth.
The organization is currently led by a single director, who bears ultimate responsibility for both operational and content-related matters and reports directly to the recently renewed Supervisory Board. Within this structure, administrative clarity, shared responsibility, and mutual oversight between the supervisory and executive bodies are of paramount importance. As a public organization, the NTR is at the center of a changing society and a dynamic media landscape. Digitization, shifting audience expectations, and the social mission of public media mean that the NTR is constantly evolving—with quality, accessibility, and social value as its guiding principles.
The new Supervisory Board is working alongside the executive board to foster stability, trust, and sound governance. This board operates within a society and media landscape that are undergoing significant change, where safeguarding public values is of the utmost importance. To ensure the renewed board is well-rounded and to further strengthen its broad expertise, we are now seeking a member with a specific background in (online) media and journalism.
For this position, we are seeking a regulator who ideally understands the dynamics of the media world from the inside, someone with proven experience in (online) media, digital development, and journalism. You ensure that public broadcasters remain relevant and trustworthy in a rapidly changing media landscape and recognize the vital role that independent journalism plays in this. You know how to ask the right questions from a regulatory perspective and bring authority and vision to the table without overstepping into management’s role.
Are you ready to help shape the future of a public broadcaster in transition? If so, we’d love to hear from you. NTR is being assisted in this process by Colourful People. If you’re interested, please contact René Burgler, a partner at Colourful People, directly at r.burgler@colourfulpeople.nl or 06 2857 5436. In a personal interview, we will explore your motivation and background, and address three key questions: what appeals to you most about serving on the NTR Supervisory Board, what do you believe is the essence of effective oversight within a public broadcaster, and how would you, based on your profile, contribute to a committed, visible, and consistent Supervisory Board?
Interviews with candidates at the NTR will take place on November 27. The appointment will be made through the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.
