Would you like to contribute, as a member of our Board of Trustees, to education that fosters a resilient and sustainable society? Are you looking for a role on the Board of Trustees that makes a real difference? If so, we’d love to talk to you!

Inholland University of Applied Sciences: Interdisciplinary Collaboration for a Vibrant Metropolis

Inholland University of Applied Sciences trains independently minded professionals and develops practical knowledge. In this way, we make a meaningful contribution to the inclusive world of tomorrow and to a sustainable and resilient society. We do this across various locations in the Randstad and across a range of disciplines: from health to economics and from technology to education. We offer unique crossovers between these disciplines. For instance, we are the only university of applied sciences in the Netherlands that combines education and research in the green sector with other sectors. In doing so, we demonstrate the courage to open new doors and explore new paths. We approach our work from the perspective of societal challenges and in an interdisciplinary manner, collaborating with the professional field, government agencies, and social partners. We aim to structure our education and research in a way that allows us to contribute even more significantly to the vitality of the metropolitan area where we live, work, and enjoy our leisure time—and to society as a whole.

We know each other, we’re open to learning from one another, and everyone belongs!

Inholland University of Applied Sciences is a large university. More than 27,000 students are enrolled in our programs. At the same time, our programs and campuses are small-scale. Our approach is personal, accessible, and inclusive. In everything we do, we look for ways to complement each other and help one another grow. We are curious and take an exploratory approach to our collaboration. We encourage each other to ask questions and are not afraid to ask for help when needed. Inholland is an accessible university of applied sciences where equal opportunity for all students and staff is the guiding principle. We leverage diversity to develop more beautiful, versatile, and better solutions to societal challenges.

A sustainable and resilient society

Our students, researchers, and staff are working on sustainable and innovative solutions to societal challenges that contribute to a high quality of life, both now and in the future. Resilient societies are able to absorb shocks and, ideally, use them as opportunities for further development. At Inholland, we focus on the ability to adapt in order to function effectively in a complex and rapidly changing society. Key themes in this regard include prevention, adaptability, independence, community life, resident engagement and behavior, justice, and safety.

Governance

The Executive Board is the central governing body of Inholland University of Applied Sciences. The three members are appointed for a fixed term by the Supervisory Board. The Executive Board has a broad range of responsibilities, including establishing the strategy, mission, and objectives; overseeing facilities; managing financial, material, and human resources; and ensuring health and safety and other working conditions in Inholland’s buildings and on its campuses.

Supervision with Impact

The Board of Trustees consists of five members and operates from a societal perspective in line with the university’s mission: to contribute to an inclusive society. The Board has three committees: the Education & Research Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Selection/Remuneration Committee. The Supervisory Board has set itself the goal of adding value to the University’s operations in terms of transparency in outcomes, engagement of external stakeholders, and collaboration with the Executive Board. The Supervisory Board allows the Executive Board to operate with trust and intervenes when necessary. This trust is based on a shared vision, clear frameworks, and generous provision of information.

As a supervisory body, the Supervisory Board has three primary responsibilities:

  1. The Board oversees everything the Executive Board does, does not do, and should do—including both administrative and policy matters.
  2. The Board acts as the employer of the members of the Executive Board: the Board appoints, evaluates, and dismisses the members of the Executive Board; this also includes establishing their terms of employment
  3. The Council serves as an advisor and “critical friend” to the Executive Board.

From the university’s societal perspective, the Council views its fourth task as monitoring how the organization maintains contact with its external stakeholders.

Due to the expiration of the term of office of one of the members of the Supervisory Board, we are seeking a member with a background in Innovation and Transformation.

Profile

Technological (AI, digitization, robotization) and societal developments are advancing rapidly and are impacting both the content of our curriculum and the way we organize our work. Flexibility and innovation are therefore key priorities for the Executive Board. We are seeking a member with a focus on Innovation and Transformation who, drawing on up-to-date, broad knowledge in the fields of innovation and digitization, is able to translate these developments into the context of our education. This is not so much about translating these developments into the content of our education, but rather about how we, as an organization, can anticipate and engage with these developments. This includes how they affect the professional development of our staff, the design of our educational processes and operations, and our strategic alliances.

We are looking for candidates who focus their work on translating innovation into organizational practice—and vice versa. You operate at a strategic level, enabling you to view all issues within the Board of Trustees in their broader context and to fulfill your role as a supervisor and sounding board accordingly. You have a solid understanding of governance relationships. You are an independent individual but understand that the strength of the Board of Trustees lies primarily in collaboration and leveraging each other’s complementary strengths. You know how to contribute to this. You do not need to have experience in an educational organization, but you must be able to translate your knowledge and experience to the context of our organization, including from the perspective of the labor market. Experience in the public sector and a passion for education and development in a general sense are desirable. Do you recognize yourself in our core values and this profile? Then we’d love to talk to you!

The prospective new member will serve on one of the Supervisory Board committees. The specific role will be determined in consultation with the new member and based on their experience.
