“The NIVOZ Foundation is a space where teachers, school leaders, trainers, and administrators can find support in their educational mission and practice.” With this mission, NIVOZ aims to meet the need for educational thinking, educational reflection, and meaningful educational theory.
NIVOZ aims to inspire education professionals, connect them with one another and with their professional practice, and support their professional development through its four core activities: NIVOZ training programs, the NIVOZ platform “hetkind,” NIVOZ Podium, and NIVOZ Research.
NIVOZ was founded in 2003 and has been based at the Dokhuis in Rotterdam since 2023. In recent years, our foundation has grown to include approximately thirty people and has a Supervisory Board that currently consists of four members. NIVOZ is a nonprofit organization and holds ANBI status.
Since 2023, the NIVOZ Foundation has been based at the Dokhuis on Doklaan in Rotterdam. The Dokhuis is the physical embodiment of our mission: a space where education professionals come together to learn and grow. As a cultural and educational hub, the Dokhuis hosts a diverse program of training courses, lectures, debates, and cultural activities that stimulate the educational imagination.
This specific role of the Dokhuis involves unique financial and organizational challenges. These include alternative financing structures (in addition to regular grants), operating hospitality facilities, and navigating regulations surrounding public programming and event permits. For the Supervisory Board, this means that understanding this broader context—where social value, cultural entrepreneurship, and financial sustainability converge—is essential.
As of June 1, 2018, the Supervisory Board is a body enshrined in NIVOZ’s articles of incorporation and consists of four members. Its duties include: supervising the foundation’s management, acting as the director’s employer, reviewing decision-making, approving the annual financial statements, serving as a sounding board, and providing the director with both solicited and unsolicited advice. NIVOZ has a single-member board (director), in the person of Jan Jaap Hubeek.
The Board is responsible for managing the foundation, acting in the foundation’s best interests in accordance with its statutory purpose. The Board reports to the Supervisory Board.
The Supervisory Board meets at least four times a year. Members are appointed for a term of up to four years. Members may be reappointed twice for a term of up to four years.
The board operates on the basis of collective responsibility. It is composed in such a way that its members collectively possess the necessary knowledge, experience, and networks to assess policy and strategy, as well as the organization and its operations in general. Membership on the board is an unpaid position.
