We are looking for a member with a financial background to join the Veenendaal Library’s Board of Trustees, someone who is committed to strengthening the library’s role in Veenendaal’s community.

About the Board of Trustees
The supervisory board engages in a values-driven and inspiring dialogue with the executive director regarding the library’s strategy, direction, and the choices it makes. The board does so within the statutory framework and acts in accordance with the principles of the Cultural Governance Code. The members complement one another and are focused on collaboration. In addition to its supervisory role, the board also serves as a sparring partner and employer for the executive director.
There are three committees: the Strategy & Policy Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Compensation Committee. The new member will, in any case, chair the Audit Committee.
About the Veenendaal Library
The Veenendaal Library is located in De Cultuurfabriek, in the heart of Veenendaal. Last year, we welcomed more than 250,000 visitors from all walks of life to De Cultuurfabriek. The library is about so much more than just books. We offer an extensive program of cultural, educational, and social activities for all residents of Veenendaal. It is a meeting place where visitors feel supported in their personal growth and encouraged in their creativity. A platform for the development of children and adults, so they can share, read, learn, and participate. The library fosters the development of Veenendaal residents, enabling them to participate fully in society.
The board is looking for someone who:
- has an affinity for the scope of work and the role of the public library in Veenendaal.
- has the financial knowledge and background necessary to effectively carry out the board’s statutory duties in this area. Knowledge of how the municipality operates and of grants is a plus.
- has a strategic vision for financial sustainability, internal control, risk management, and accountability, and has a vision for the library’s role in society.
- has knowledge of and experience with political and administrative decision-making processes.
- has the ability to maintain a good balance between engagement and administrative detachment.
- brings the qualities of a financial regulator, sounding board, and advisor, and is able to reflect on their own behavior and the board’s performance.
- is independent and has no business or personal interests, nor does he or she hold any political or policy-related position with the municipality of Veenendaal.
- is familiar with the legal status of a regulator.
