More about this organization
Two children are intently reading a book together; a black-and-white photo that radiates the joy of reading.

Books of all kinds teach us about the present, the past, and the future, and can enrich, inspire, and move us. That is why we are looking for a passionate member to join the CPNB’s Supervisory Board.

Sorry for returning this book so late, but I just couldn't put it down.

About the CPNB

The CPNB Foundation is the leading organization working with a wide range of partners to encourage more people to read. The results have been impressive: over the past decade, there has been a clear increase in the number of books sold, peaking in 2022. Reading books inspires, educates, and relaxes children, young people, and adults, thereby fostering greater development, curiosity, and connection. To this end, the CPNB employs a wide range of tools and campaigns targeting children, young people, and adults. From the National Read-Aloud Days and Youth Book Week to Summer Reading and Book Week. To achieve these breakthroughs, the CPNB works for and in collaboration with the collective of three covenant partners—bookstores, publishers, and libraries—as well as with companies and social organizations. The CPNB is led by a single executive director, Eveline Aendekerk. She is supported in her work by the management team and staff (a total of approximately 30 professionals).

Due to changes in governance, we are looking for a

- Member of the Supervisory Board with a background in finance and operations (f/m/x)

About the Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board currently consists of five members, including the chair. The Supervisory Board exercises comprehensive oversight of the organization’s policies and general affairs. In addition, the Supervisory Board advises the executive director and serves as a sparring partner. This is done in accordance with an appropriate, statutorily defined division of roles between the supervisory body and the director. Until recently, the board (since July 22, 2022, the board has been a Supervisory Board) consisted entirely of representatives from the collective of bookstores, publishers, and libraries. Recently, three independent members have also joined the Supervisory Board, including the independent chair and the new member with a financial background.

In addition to specific competencies, we expect the new member to meet the general profile for members of the Supervisory Board, as outlined below.

Who are we looking for?

Each member of our Board of Trustees possesses the following qualities:

  • A strong passion for books and reading, as well as for the CPNB’s mission and vision;
  • The ability to act with integrity, diligence, and autonomy;
  • The ability to serve as a sounding board and sparring partner for the CEO;
  • An appreciation for the importance of pooling the various strengths within the book industry;
  • A collaborative and empathetic personality;
  • Social awareness, independence, and a sense of responsibility for the bigger picture.

The following also applies to the member with the financial profile:

  • You have a background in business administration or accounting;
  • You possess the strategic insight into financial processes needed to keep the Supervisory Board well-informed and to advise the Board and the director on financial (risk) management and financial (annual) reporting;
  • You are able to take a broad view and interpret financial data to understand the CPNB’s operations, and provide the Board with advice on these matters;
  • You will be involved in discussions with the external auditor regarding the auditor’s report on the financial statements and the financial accountability;
  • Supervisory experience is not a requirement for this position, but a willingness to build administrative experience and knowledge with a sense of curiosity is.

Interested?

The CPNB is working with the executive search firm Colourful People to fill this position. For more information about the role or the application process, please contact Naima Azough, partner at Colourful People (06-43449717) or n.azough@colourfulpeople.nl. You can express your interest by uploading your cover letter and resume no later than October 16, 2022, via the “Apply” button at the bottom of this page.

The CPNB views the diversity of our society as an asset and strives to reflect this diversity on its Board of Trustees. We therefore strongly encourage candidates who meet these criteria to apply.
